Today at our F8 conference I'm going to discuss a new privacy control we're building called "Clear History".

In your web browser, you have a simple way to clear your cookies and history. The idea is a lot of sites need cookies to work, but you should still be able to flush your history whenever you want. We're building a version of this for Facebook too. It will be a simple control to clear your browsing history on Facebook -- what you've clicked on, websites you've visited, and so on.

We're starting with something a lot of people have asked about recently: the information we see from websites and apps that use Facebook's ads and analytics tools.

Once we roll out this update, you'll be able to see information about the apps and websites you've interacted with, and you'll be able to clear this information from your account. You'll even be able to turn off having this information stored with your account.

To be clear, when you clear your cookies in your browser, it can make parts of your experience worse. You may have to sign back in to every website, and you may have to reconfigure things. The same will be true here. Your Facebook won't be as good while it relearns your preferences.

But after going through our systems, this is an example of the kind of control we think you should have. It's something privacy advocates have been asking for -- and we will work with them to make sure we get it right.

One thing I learned from my experience testifying in Congress is that I didn't have clear enough answers to some of the questions about data. We're working to make sure these controls are clear, and we will have more to come soon.

Mark I know this is not part of the current discussion, but can you do something to help directly trough support ticket system or similar to every Facebook page owners and developer... Facebook support it’s really bad man. Probably you would never see this comment but if you do... please consider it for a moment.

It is awesome that there were issues identified, concerns about privacy heard, and your realization that they needed to be properly addressed for your customers - all of your Facebook users! Thank you. Judy

Facebook has been tracking every one and anyone that you message or talk to, for years and have all the data on everyone stored for life. Why have they never allowed anyone to delete contacts. What suckerberg says is just b's and to cover up what people are sick of. Why they will never allow anyone to delete a contact until they have everyone's name and data for future punishment. Biggest lie he speaks, Facebook is not about friends, many many big brothers are collecting data and watching everyone.

This is a big hypocrisy! People enjoy and appreciate Facebook usage. Who pay for development and infrastructure to host Facebook? Who pay this huge technology? People should be aware that there is no free service. Someone should pay the milk 😀. If you are using Facebook you should accept the game's rules. You need privacy you should accept to pay services. You prefer freebies you must accept the business reality.

Thanks Mark! I've said it several times, you were the perfect scape goat to push GDPR and come out the other side. Ultimate target marketing to make the individual aware. Facebook is one of the better ones but this is the best way they can go after Google, etc. Educate the masses on data privacy. While Facebook collects, it has been visible and I have been able to manage it..... Unlike some others.

When are you just going to stop denying people their right to private lives on here and put safer precautions in place so that hackers can't hack, identity thieves can't steal and privatcy is private? Your team looking into our lives is not private. We should be aloud to have at least that given facebook is in no way private lol. Your team is meant to be the best computer wizzes out......why don't you prove it and stop what's nessacery instead of by passing it and making it worse. Also whenare you going to sort the identity crisis out instead of pushing it a side?

What is this survey question that just popped up on my feeds? What kind of games are you playing? Who's allowed to tap into my account and access my feeds and send that to me? When do you stop the fake news, when do you stop the fake accounts?

One thing I learned from Congress is that they don’t understand how FB and work. They want FB to create a shortcut to your internet browsers “clear history” button. So... the end user is more computer savvy than Congress.
Another thing I learned is that you can easily run circles around congress because they don’t have a CTO. I feel like I’m in the twilight zone.

"There will always be a version of Facebook that is free." Direct quote from Mark Zuckerberg. During the congressional hearing.
That is an omission that FB plans on charging money for their social media platform in the future.

I think your session with Congress made it clear that technologists should not only look at the products they develop from their scope only, Facebook needs politicians, academicians and anthropologist on its team next to technologists as well...this will enable them to be better prepared for future data challenges.

And what about the analytics data you've generated based on that data? I assume that is still intact, right? So this feature is just for the plebs who have no idea what is going on right? right.

Thank you for your concern and willingness. I would love a current site for Facebook for Dummies, where simple questions are answered...
Kind of like First Grade through Eigth Grade. So many people feel as if they would like to get on board, but they don't know the first question to ask about data management.

Hey mark, from my experience with the internet and Facebook. People don’t realize their can clear their cookies from their browsers. Just to give you a heads up. What people don’t realize, cookies make it easier for people to stay log in without having to log in every time, sometimes storing information makes it easier for people to go back to where they left off. They need to think of the cookies as an assistant. Everyone just needs put theirselves in this scenario.

A person has been using the the same laptop for 2-3 years, using it day to day, with lots of data saved on websites such as log in passwords and personal preference on what they are shopping for or projects they have been working on online.
Games they have been playing. All already set to their personal preference.

Let’s say their computer crashes. The person decides to get a new laptop. Ideally just swap out a new hard drive to fix the problem.
That doesn’t fix all the information the person has stored or saved on the computer. Since it’s a new hard drive or new laptop with no memory stored on there.

That person would have to start from scratch trying to remember all their log ins and passwords and all those sites they were working on.

But people will always try to find a way to make a negative remark.

Just stay positive and keep up the good work.
We appreciate your dedication. As much as you want to please and help the world. We can’t please everyone, we can only attempt to try. And sometimes trying is better than nothing at all.

Stay humble, stay kind, and ever stop smiling.

Best regards
-Thomas

i just wondering
why facebook still have messenger even when they already buy whatsapp? then why you buy whatsapp if you still wanna keep developing messenger? come on...you can bring all that messenger thing to whatsapp..sticker , bots and so on..it is yours now..

can you just make whatsapp as the messenger?
i mean "cloud ready" and well integrated with facebook ..such as login.so just use fb to login to whatsapp..just like messenger..and chatting with others just about sharing the username..not phone number anymore..

just don't forget that whatsapp should be end-to-end encrypted..
no one love the idea of other people read their chat,,

oh and well integrated with facebook meaning that..FAN can finally reach whatsapp platform (using data from facebook not the chat)

facebook already have instant article..why don't bring this to whatsapp?
yeah i know..because there is no page..
but you can create whatsapp channel..
bringing IA to whatsapp may give a room for FAN..
so no need to put that ads when i were scrolling to find chat with my friends..

come on..ads in between story also understandable..but ads while scrolling the chat list..is so *******

I really don’t need FB learning my preferences. What I want is to see the all the posts of friends, family and pages that I have specifically followed. That’s all. I don’t mind an occasional ad I can scroll past because I know you have to pay for it somehow, but really, that’s all I want is to see the things listed above, no need to “learn my preferences”.

“Your Facebook won't be as good while it relearns your preferences.”

You mean I won’t get targeted garbage, I’ll just get garbage, but my privacy will be more secure?

I use Facebook to interact with people, not targeted content. All sponsored content is annoying noise and interferes with my social networking satisfaction, anyway, so...

“To be clear, when you clear the cookies from your browser it can make parts of your experience worse.....Your Facebook won’t be as good until it relearned your preference.” —> isn’t this the reason we select our preferences in “settings?” How about doing a better job at following through with allowing users to see contents from friends and pages they requested in the first place. Stop screwing with our feed!!

Facebook “thinks” it knows my preferences, but proves over and over again that it does not really know, so please go ahead and develop a way for us to delete cookies and clear our history.

Since we all Not Knowingly but still agreed to have Facebook stealing everyone's information...and if your not logged onto facebook, facebook still records ALL of your browsing history and every single web page you go to with out your permission. Now that congress grilled him ( even tho they all had meetings the day before on what they were going to ask him) not under oath by the way. This is his slap on the wrist. He has more information on everyone who has an internet connection. Facebook has acces to all your contacts in your phone if you use thier app Messenger.. So if you have aunt sallys number stored in your phone they have access to her info now EVEN IF SHE DOESNT HAVE FACEBOOK or use MESSENGER. this is how you obtain everyone's information who has a cell or access to the internet Didnt Snowden get outcasted for telling people this was exactly what the CIA was doing only with everyones phones being tapped? Makes you wonder. The rule of 6.

Clearing cookies and history will help in preventing the access to our personal database in real time basis. But at the same time, you need to limit the permission for all third party applications. They shouldn't be able to check our timeline or our messages. It should be completely blocked.

This is just another eye wash ..all datas will still he archieved in some back up server ..in the era where information is power I doubt Facebook will delete any history permanently.if it wanted to genuinely it would have already been done by now .this is another good cop gimmick!
