↓ Please scroll down for English ↓ 57 років тому, 16 березня 1962 року, з полігону Капустин Яр дніпропетровською ракетою-носієм «Космос» було успішно виведено на навколоземну орбіту перший космічний апарат ДС-2 («Космос-1»), розроблений в КБ «Південне» і виготовлений на Південмаші. Супутник поклав початок розробці та виготовленню в Дніпропетровську великого сімейства космічних апаратів серії «Космос». Цей день щорічно відзначається в КБ «Південне» як день народження космічного напрямку робіт нашого підприємства. *** 4 жовтня 1957 року запуском першого штучного супутника Землі розпочалася нова космічна ера в розвитку людства. В усьому світі, й Радянському Союзі в тому числі, різко зріс попит на запуск космічних апаратів (КА). Єдина на той момент радянська ракета-носій Р-7 (у двоступеневій модифікації «Супутник» і триступеневій ‒ «Восток») була відносно складною й дорогою. Актуальним було завдання створення іншого носія, простішого, легшого і дешевшого. КБ «Південне» запропонувало створити ракету-носій (РН) на базі вже відпрацьованої бойової ракети. Цю пропозицію прийняло керівництво галузі. Ракета-носій «Космос» – є першою ракетою-носієм, створеною КБ «Південне» шляхом установлення на одноступеневу бойову ракету Р-12 додаткового ступеня. Вона належить до РН легкого класу і призначалась для запуску космічних апаратів масою до 450 кг на низькі навколоземні орбіти. Спосіб компонування: тандем. Перший успішний пуск ракети-носія «Космос» було здійснено 16 березня 1962 року з полігону Капустин Яр. На навколоземну орбіту було виведено перший космічний апарат розробки КБ «Південне» – «Космос-1» (ДC-2) масою 47 кг. За допомогою апаратури супутника вперше виявлено і визначено діапазон великомасштабних неоднорідних утворень в іоносфері, визначено кути рефракції радіохвиль. Ракета-носій «Космос» експлуатувалася на космодромах Капустін Яр і Плесецьк до 18 червня 1977 р. Усього було здійснено 165 пусків, з них 143 – успішних. *** On March 16, 1962, 57 years ago, the Kosmos launch vehicle of Dnipropetrovsk successfully put into low-earth orbit the first DS-2 (Kosmos-1) spacecraft, developed by Yuzhnoye and manufactured by Yuzhmash. Spacecraft laid the foundation of large family of Kosmos spacecrafts development and manufacturing in Dnipropetrovsk. This day is celebrated annually by Yuzhnoye as the birthday of aerospace direction of our company activities. *** On 4 October, 1957, after launching of the first artificial satellite the new space age was started in the human development. In the whole world, as well as in the Soviet Union, the spacecraft (SC) launching was in the great demand deeply. At that time, the only Soviet R-7 launch vehicle (called Sputnik in two-stage version and Vostok in three-stage version) was of relatively elaborate design and also expensive. It was the task of high priority to develop other launch vehicle, that would be of more simply configuration, light-weight, and cheaper. Yuzhnoye proposed to develop a launch vehicle based on the missile has been already proven. The leaders of the space rocket industry accepted that suggestion. The Kosmos launch vehicle is the first launch vehicle developed in Yuzhnoye by the way of mounting the additional stage on the top of the R-12 single-stage missile. The Kosmos is a light-weight launch vehicle and it was designed to launch the spacecraft with mass of 450 kg into low-earth orbits. Configuration: tandem. On 16 March, 1962, the first successful launch of the Kosmos launch vehicle was performed from the Kapustin Yar launch site. The first Kosmos-1 (DS-2) spacecraft (mass – 47 kg) of Yuzhnoye development was placed into low-earth orbit. Using the spacecraft equipment, the range of large-scale inhomogeneous formations in ionosphere were detected and specified for the first time, radio waves refraction angles were identified.
