Dear Friends,
After the outpouring of support you offered me this past week, electing me to be your district leader at over 70% of the vote(!), I am humbled to know that I have your confidence in my abilities to fight for this community. As such, I hope you will join me as partners as I contemplate the next steps in my career. In this vein, today I am proud to announce that I will be exploring a run for the New York State Assembly, to represent the 72nd District, Washington Heights, Inwood and Marble Hill.
Our community desperately needs a wider range of voices to be sure the needs of all are being met at our state capitol. As a young woman of color, a new mother and someone with experience working in the assembly, I believe I can be that voice--a voice to lift up the women of our community to new heights.
In the coming months, I will be talking to uptown residents, listening to their concerns and getting feedback on what they feel is lacking in the platforms of our state representatives. I will look to craft an inclusive agenda, centered around the need for paid family leave, healthcare for young women and stronger protection laws for lower income tenants and quality small businesses.
I hope I can continue to count on your generous support and build upon this journey we have begun together. I am ready and eager to take these next steps and your feedback in this process will be vital as I strongly consider this decision.
Thank you,
Carmen De La Rosa
