RESPECT FOR THE DOMINICAN COMMUNITY

Council Member Ydanis Rodriguez condemns derogatory comments
by ESPN Analyst Collin Cowherd

I am outraged by the ignorance of ESPN radio host Collin Cowherd's comments in regards to Dominican players in Major League Baseball. This insult will not be tolerated, especially on heels of a historic moment when our very own Pedro Martinez is inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame. The Dominican community has a deep history of achieving major contributions not only in the sport but throughout our nation. Here in New York City students of Dominican descent make up the largest group of students at CUNY. Many have gone on to be successful in all sectors of our city as entrepreneurs, government officials bankers, and academics. We have excelled in many areas, aside from sports. There is no room for this type of ignorant rhetoric and I fully expect for ESPN executives to ensure that this moment does not repeat itself.
