Transportation Chairman Ydanis Rodriguez responds to release of the Move NY Plan
Right now, our infrastructure is aging and the funding to improve it is drying up. When we take a moment to examine the funding gaps that currently exist in order to successfully bring our city's infrastructure into a state of good repair, it becomes clear that we must consider creative solutions to close the gap.
The innovative Move NY plan helps open those hard but necessary conversations about the future of infrastructure improvement in our state and how best to fund it. Funding gaps like the $15 billion MTA Capital Plan deficit need to be addressed and remedied not only so that we can begin to renovate our bridges and tunnels, infrastructure but also reinvest planned revenue in local communities. With more resources, we can begin to address the inequities in our transit network and begin to connect communities that have been isolated for far too long. Further, in the age of Vision Zero, we must support and promote strategies that will make our streets safer for drivers and pedestrians alike. By reducing congestion and funding the installation of traffic calming measures and street redesign projects Move NY has the potential to bring New York City yet another step forward towards achieving Vision Zero.
