#Update on the injured #slothbear: After her arrival at #BannerghattaBearRescueCentre, the bear was immediately wheeled into ICU and the doctors conducted a slew of tests. The veterinary team found a deep pellet wound on her spine leading to the paralysis of her hind limbs.

The x-ray showed that the pellet had further split into shrapnel that was lodged in different parts – two fragments were in the abdomen, one had torn through tissue to lodge itself in the ankle of the left hind limb and the fourth was stuck outside the thoracic cavity. The team immediately started on a routine of laser therapy, physiotherapy, painkillers and antibiotics and offered her watermelons and porridge, which she refused to consume.

While she has been sipping on warm water mixed with honey, her recovery will not start until she begins to consume solid food. For now she’s on medication, but we are hoping that she begins to eat soon.

She will be under continuous monitoring and we will keep you updated on her prognosis.

Please keep her in your thoughts.

A happy swim in the pool is exactly how we'd like to have celebrated Rajesh's tenth rescueversary, had it not been mid-winter in northern India with a biting chill in the night.

However for this happy moment, we wanted to share with you a recent one of Rajesh's most favourite moments in the river - a luxury he's enjoyed only after coming to the Elephant Conservation and Care Centre!

In the decade that has passed since Rajesh arrived at #ECCC, Rajesh has had an arduous journey of recovery but the process has left him stronger. His story was that of the many circus elephants - abused, neglected and treated cruelly as a performing elephant, made to perform unnatural tricks.

Today the majestic tusker enjoys a carefully curated diet with seasonal delicacies, a free ranging enclosure and a pool where many a hot moments are spent for relief - and we're incredibly grateful to have been a part of his journey.

Happy tenth rescueversary, Rajesh!
