About
Foundation to increase awareness and research funding for the deadliest brain cancer in children: DIPG.
Mission
Children are an integral part of every parents' life, body and soul. A life of a child is a gift representing hope and future. We are on a mission to eliminate childhood cancer, starting with brainstem glioma: DIPG. The Cure Starts Now is dedicated for a "homerun cure" for all cancers.
Description
The Central Texas Chapter of The Cure Starts Now was formed in honor of Jade Victoria Bridier.
Jade Bridier (aka Pretty Jade) was born in May 2012. She was a beautiful and loving little girl. A true princess in every way. Jade loved to sing, dance, play dress up, swim and loved her little sister, Mila. At the age of 10 months old, Jade started signing and was able to sign over 300 words by the time she was 18 months old. She was a very smart and gifted girl, always keeping us on our feet. Jade loved animals and lizards as much as dolls and unicorns. On days off, you'd find her chasing lizards with her dad or getting a pedicure. Jade had an aura around her that made everyone who met her fall instantly connected with her. She would challenge us with her intelligence most days; yet we were always mesmerized by her beauty and cleverness. Jade brought so much joy to our lives.
On August 15, 2016, we were on vacation where Jade slipped and fell bumping the back of her head. Later on that evening, her eyes started to cross. Being only 4 years old, she said, "mommy, I can see two of you, but that's ok, I love you." Returning to Texas, we took Jade to the ER where she was reported to have a negative CT Scan. We followed up with the neurologist that following Monday, August 22nd; a day for celebration since it was Mila's second birthday; yet we spent the day attending Jade's doctor's appointment. The neurologist informed us that he saw something in the pons and recommended a MRI. Wednesday, August 24th, we received the worst news any parent could ever hear; our baby girl had a brain tumor in the pons area of her brain. The radiologist informed us that the prognosis would be the same regardless if the tumor was benign or malignant.
The next day, Jade's condition decelerated rapidly. She no longer could walk or hold her head up. Jade was airlifted to Texas Children's Hospital and fought the worse disease a child could ever fight. Within two days in PICU, Jade lost the ability to walk, eat, swallow, urinate and talk. We had to revert back to signing in order for us to communicate. The last words spoken by Jade were, "Mommy,I want to go home," and the last words signed were "I'm hungry."
Jade never had the opportunity to receive additional treatment. By day four, Jade had desatted and her heart could no longer keep up with her fragile body. Being a daughter of a State Trooper, Jade became a troopers angel on August 29, 2016. Jade has touched so many lives within such a short time. She is loved by many and will be missed tremendously. Our last promise to Jade was that we will fight for her cause and bring increased awareness to DIPG. We will FIND a cure!
