WHAT 3 WORDS. Another example of the benefits of this location tool. Around 8pm last night a young lady rolled her Mazda off the A19 at Thirsk. Due to the precarious position of her upturned car she was unable to get out and had no real idea where she was. No-one stopped, No-one reported it. She managed to ring her dad in Shrewsbury who talked her through the What Three Words App. Dad then rang our York Control Room, with the relevant words, who were able to pin point the collision. We kept a three way conversation with daughter, dad and control for the four minutes it took officers to get on scene. Driver released and luckily OK. We can not stress the importance and benefits of this location tool.

All these what 3 words posts. If you didn't read the first post you'll be looking at these without knowing what it means or what to do. NYP Please put instructions on all of your new w3w posts. I'm still clueless and maybe not the only one.

how much did @what3words pay you to write this? noone knows a 3 word address. Latitude/ Longitude works best for everyone and agencies who can afford to geocode based on that, for free. Silly article, silly concept. 999 works fine

From the people who use this daily - us, its far easier to use than trying to find GPS coordinates, and easier for the general public. 999 does work fine, but if you don't know where you are, its not much use. A cell site trace isn't very accurate. We use W3W for all sorts. We don't get paid to write things, and its a free app to download. If you don't want to install it, thats fine. But you might regret it one day.

🎥 This is how a 100mph pursuit on the A1(M) was brought to a safe conclusion yesterday👇
Stinger deployed on the North Yorkshire/County Durham border
Two in custody thanks to teamwork with Durham Constabulary and West Yorkshire Police

Play Video

This BMW driver failed to stop for police yesterday afternoon and hightailed it up the A1(M) at speeds of over 100mph.

Assisting our colleagues at West Yorkshire Police and North Yorkshire Police, our traffic cops conducted a rolling roadblock to clear a section of motorway.

Waiting just over the Durham border, our officers executed this textbook stinger deployment to bring the BMW to a halt.

3 out of 4 tyres stung
Vehicle stopped 2 miles later
2 arrested
No injuries and no damage to any police vehicles

That's a job well done.

If you were in Ryedale today you may have spotted a police Ducati Panigale on patrol around Malton and Helmsley.👀🚨

It's a tidy bit of kit which we're borrowing from the good folks at BikeSafe, who have been loaned it by Ducati.

Police biker TC Jamie Lord of North Yorkshire Police Roads Policing Group had the keys today.

He's passionate about riding and runs BikeSafe in North Yorkshire. 🏍🏍🏍

Check out his blog, 'How becoming a police biker changed the way I ride'.
A great 3-min read 👌
