At around 5 o'clock in the morning on March 14th, after a day of snowmelt and another day of rain, the dam south of Spencer NE could not hold back the water any longer. The dam and the dike broke loose and the rushing water
left a path of destruction behind.
50' x 480' cattle confinement building, slatted floor with manure pit under the entire building. This is where I've been working for the last 9 days straight.
The original contractor scheduled to dig this backed out so I was asked to do the job. My 20 ton excavator was a little undersized for the job but I got it done and the concrete crew is getting it setup now. A little over 9,000 yards excavated. Only suffered one blown hydraulic hose during the whole job, so didn't fair too bad. Jim Birkel
Installing a culvert north of Colome. The old culvert that was here was buried really deep and not working. With steady rain, this road was almost impassable on a regular basis, so a new one needed to be installed.
Basement dug, garage footings tomorrow. It's past my bedtime, better call it a day.
