The bloodshed the world is witnessing at the Gaza-Israel border is another reminder of the tragic failure of the larger peace process.
The Trump Administration's insistence on relocating the U.S. Embassy now is only making a bad situation worse. Palestinians have the right to peaceably protest, and Israel has every right to defend itself. Neither side can claim total innocence in the violent turn this has taken, and I urge both parties to step back and deescalate before more lives are lost. That must be the first step if progress toward a lasting peace is to be made and two successful and secure states are to emerge.

I am extremely disturbed that the current occupant of the white house was so shortsighted in his decision to move the embassy. They only served to provoke an already volatile situation sending the message to the Palestinian people that the United States only supports Israels claims. He also ignored the UN in this decision.
