The Elders

Ten years ago today Nelson Mandela founded The Elders and we began working for peace, justice and human rights for all.

To celebrate, we’ve created this film featuring previously unseen footage from our initial meeting with Nelson Mandela.

Discover the story of how The Elders were mandated with Madiba’s vision, their reflections on being invited to join, their impact and how they seek to respond to the challenges that face our world today.

Please share to help continue inspiring hope!

Without doubt Madiba will always have everyone's unqualified respect and his wife Graca, Bishop Tutu, also. I'm not familiar with everyone, but will stick my neck out and say first, if only he was still with us! I have reservations about Jimmy Carter, he has always seemed biaaed against Jews and found him aniti-Semitic, which isn't part of being a true Elder. I was most disappointed in the absence of change Kofi Annan brought to the UN, allowing all the past and present enormous wrongs to continue. Otherwise, I wish them God Speed, it's a huge task.

Nelson Mandela was a great leader. He spent years in prison, was self taught and he inspired others. His human rights were taken from him, so when he talks of human rights, he means for all people in all countries.

Happy anniversary on stellar work and aims. Wishing you more visibility in the media in future as results of such work do not get attention. I have no idea of your impact on changing daily lives - would be nice to hear and see more. Best wishes.

So important that Nelson mandela stays in our mind. You know their are still battles to deal with. Apartheid is still in the mind of a lot of people. Not on a signbord with apartheid but in the minds of people. Coloured people can be intelligent too and Yes they spend money on products too. In Holland coloured youngsters hardly maintain a job. Even criminals get a job easier than they hire a black person.

Proof that wisdom comes with old age. We have so much to learn and so much potential hope. We need to see more of the Elders and those in power definitely need to hear their message. I so admire Nelson Mandela and the legacy of his words and life that he has left us.

I started following the organization about a year after it started. Their work is amazing and I congratulate on 10 years. Somehow, I feel saying "Thank You" is not enough. We are blessed that an amazing group of people are doing such wonderful work!

It would be magical to see at this 10th anniversary a commitment to free knowledge.
This is through every piece of information ( art, literature, film, music, papers, study etc) that once the creator has moved on all that information must be made free to everybody, everywhere. Let's together raise up humanity and see and help its full potential

I do hope that the Elders continue influencing and bring about change for the greater good of human kind. I had no idea before seeing this that the Elders existed. I do now and am very thankful for all their good work. Long may their influence bring about change in the most difficult of situations.
