This is why I like being an Indonesian, were so used to challenges in life, pretty much nothing scares us anymore. Sure yeah, today some people today lobbed some grenades and shot some rounds and sure yeah, 7 people died as a result. But how did the people respond to this?
- They gathered NEAR the crime scene, beyond the police line to take pictures and sell snacks. Hey all that tension must leave some people thirsty, right?
- Private transportation services like Gojek and Uber Taxi offered free service, especially for evacuation. One Gojek driver was also seen rescuing a passer by.
- The stock market plummeted... for two hours before it went back up again. Probably the stock dealers were busy checking the live tweets.
So calling this an act of terrorism is totally inappropriate. 7 people dead? Bah! We have more people dead in a daily basis on the traffic in Jakarta.
We are not terrorized. We were just slightly surprised.., and entertained.
But thats probably what you get when youre doing a shoot out in the heart of Jakarta in broad daylight targeting fast food franchise near a police station only to have 14 snipers deployed immediately to the nearby surrounding skyscrapers. Most. Stupid. Suicide. Mission. Ever.
On a lighter note the bomb squad arrived two hours late cuz they got stuck in traffic. Now that sounds like Jakarta.
