Statement by Prime Minister Najib Razak:
Malaysian Airlines flight 17 (18 July 2014)
Yesterday evening, I was informed of the terrible and deeply shocking news that a Malaysia Airlines jet went down in eastern Ukraine.
Malaysia Airlines has confirmed that the jet was Malaysia Airlines flight 17, which was on a scheduled flight from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur.
The flight departed Amsterdam at 12.15pm, local time. It was scheduled to arrive in Kuala Lumpur at 6.10 am, local, Malaysian time.
The aircraft was a Boeing 777-200.
The aircraft’s flight route was declared safe by the International Civil Aviation Organisation.
And International Air Transportation Association has stated that the airspace the aircraft was traversing was not subject to restrictions.
Malaysia Airlines has confirmed that the aircraft did not make a distress call.
The flight was carrying a total number of 295 people – comprising 280 passengers and 15 crew members.
Malaysia Airlines is in the process of notifying the next-of-kin of the passengers and crew. All possible care will be provided to the next-of-kin.
The Government of Malaysia is dispatching a special flight to Kiev, carrying a Special Malaysia Disaster Assistance and Rescue Team, as well as a medical team.
According to information provided by Kiev Air Traffic Control, the location of the plane’s emergency locator beacon is 48 degrees 7 minutes and 23 seconds North; and 38 degrees 31 minutes and 33 seconds East.
The Ukrainian authorities believe that the plane was shot down.
At this early stage, however, Malaysia is unable to verify the cause of this tragedy.
But we must – and we will – find out precisely what happened to this flight.
No stone can be left unturned.
If it transpires that the plane was indeed shot down, we insist that the perpetrators must swiftly be brought to justice.
Emergency operations centres have been established. In the last few hours, Malaysian officials have been in constant contact with their counterparts in Ukraine and elsewhere.
And I will be speaking to a number of world leaders over the coming hours.
I have had several conversations with the Prime Minister of the Netherlands.
I have also spoken to the President of Ukraine. He has pledged that there will be a full, thorough and independent investigation, and Malaysian officials will be invited to take part.
The Ukrainian president also confirmed that his government will negotiate with rebels in the east of the country, in order to establish a humanitarian corridor to the crash site.
Just now, I received a call from President Obama.
He and I both agreed that the investigation must not be hindered in anyway.
An international team must have full access to the crash site.
And no one should interfere with the area, or move any debris, including the black box.
This is a tragic day, in what has already been a tragic year, for Malaysia.
As we work to understand what happened, our thoughts and prayers are with the family and friends of those onboard the flight.
I cannot imagine what they must be going through at this painful time.
The flight’s passengers and crew came from many different countries.
But today, regardless of nationality, we are all united in grief.

Saya selalu melihat ayah saya berdoa.
Jadi, mereka meneruskan dengan menunaikan Sa’i.
Subahanallah.
Doakan ayah saya.

January 9th, 2018 was not the first time Daddy entered the Kaabah. On the way to Mecca, Daddy shared with us that this was actually his third time.
The first two times were serendipitous. Unplanned. Unexpected. Unexplainable. Just Allah the Almighty who blessed Daddy with the rezeki to pray in Islam’s most sacred site.
The first time was in the late 1980s when he was still Minister of Youth and Sports. Daddy and Mummy were on Umrah together. They stayed at the Guest Palace (this is a special hotel within the compounds of Masjid Al-Haram for local and international government officials).
At the time, Mecca was hosting a Quran competition. One of the major attractions for this competition was to award contestants with the opportunity to enter the Kaabah. While performing the Tawaf, Mummy saw that security personnel were pushing a portable staircase towards the door of the Kaabah to allow contestants to enter. Mummy suggested that Daddy should try his luck and see if he can enter as well.
Daddy thought Mummy’s idea was inconceivable!
“Surely there must be an official name list and look at the number of security personnel surrounding the entrance!!” he thought.
So, they proceeded to perform their Sa’i.
On the way out of the mosque, Mummy saw that the doors to the Kaabah were still open! She encouraged Daddy to try his luck again. And thankfully, this time, Daddy was on board with the idea. Both of them waded through the crowd of pilgrims and managed to reach the front of the heavily guarded Kaabah staircase.
But now, there was another issue. Both of them could not speak Arabic!
With stern-looking soldiers staring daggers into his eyes, Daddy had to be quick on his feet. He minced through a few basic Arabic words that he learnt on the trip - “Wazeer Riyadah Malazee!” “Wazeer Riyadah Malazee!”
And to his astonishment, without a passport or any form of ID to confirm his identity, the line of soldiers exclaimed, “Ta Fadl!”.
They stepped aside and made way for Daddy to enter the Kaabah and directed Mummy to wait for Daddy at Hijr Ismail.
Now, the story of Daddy’s second visit into the Kaabah was, in my opinion, even more surreal. It took place in the early 1990s when Daddy was the Minister of Defence. He was on Umrah with Mummy and Arwah Tok (Tun Rahah).
At the Guest Palace, Daddy overheard that the mosque authorities were planning to open the Kaabah because this was the time for them to clean it and change the Kiswah. Tan Sri Abang Abu Bakar, a minister at the PMO in charge of religious affairs at the time, was also in Mecca for a meeting with other Malaysian ministers and officials to negotiate the increase in the hajj quota.
The Malaysian delegation were awarded with eight passes to enter the Kaabah to help out with the cleaning rituals of the Kaabah. Of course, Daddy’s officer inquired with the Saudi protocol team about an extra pass for Daddy to join the delegation but unfortunately all the slots were full.
Nonetheless, as a sign of goodwill, a Saudi protocol officer volunteered to double check in his office for an extra pass though he cautioned it was highly unlikely. Who would misplace such a valuable pass, right?
At 4am Daddy was awakened by a loud knock on his door. It was the Saudi protocol officer.
“Your Excellency, Allah has left this invitation for you”, the officer said in disbelief.
It turned out that the Saudi protocol officer went to his office desk earlier in the night and scourged through his drawers. He found one pass in his bottom drawer. Just ONE pass. That pass slipped onto his desk as he flicked through a stack of papers.
The protocol officer was speechless. Daddy was speechless. And until today as I recall this story, I too am lost for words.
And of course, the third time Daddy entered the Kaabah with his dearest family in 2018. This was meaningful for a different reason - it was a story of a son performing one of his last filial duties to his beloved mother.
At a prior official meeting, King Salman asked Daddy privately, “Is there anything we do for you or the family...Anything at all?” Daddy replied, “Yes, Your Highness, I do have one personal wish. It is my mother’s dream to enter and pray in the Kaabah. I would like to honour this dream for her”.
And, Alhamdulillah King Salman agreed and made the necessary arrangements for Daddy, Arwah Tok and the family to pray in the Kaabah in January 2018.
Subahanallah. I truly believe that when Allah S.W.T grants for something to happen, no matter the odds, HE will clear one’s path and ease everything.

Terima kasih Najib Razak kerana siang malam memperjuangkan I sinar utk rakyat yang keadaan sukar skrg...
Bossku the best forever...
Tu zaman aku study laah... Masa tu member2 aku mane berani mengadu kat mak bapak . Kalo idak.. mak ayah tambah lagi..
Kedua-dua penjual dan pembeli ketum haram ditangkap dan dihukum.
Tapi mengapa penjual ekzos haram bebas menjualnya, hanya pembeli didenda?
Belum main PS5 lagi 😅
Sekarang kita lihat respon pengguna. Kalau selepas tempoh ni berakhir pun masih ada yang ingkar, maka ketahuilah kedegilan rakyat kita memang sukar diubah.
Hanya masa menentukan.
