Über Save The Briger Forest / Scrap Scripps
Join the fight to save the Briger Forest against toxic, greedy corporations such as Kolter, Scripps, and UNited technologies.

Located in Palm Beach County, Florida, the Briger Forest is a 681-acre mix of freshwater marshes, hardwood forest and prairie that’s slated to become part of a commercial/residential offshoot of the Scripps Research Institute, a biomedical research company--unless we can save it!

This forest is one of the largest tracts of intact forest remaining in all of southeastern Florida and is home to several threatened species such as the gopher tortoise, snowy egret and the hand fern. It contains habitats suitable for at least 13 species listed for protection, including the endangered Eastern Indigo snake and the bald eagle.

The Scripps Phase II development plan makes no mention of protection for the endangered and threatened species. Despite this, clearing has already begun--we believe illegally.

Here is what developers want to put inside what was once a pristine tract of land:

- 1.6 million square feet for Scripps office and biotech research space.
- 2.4 million square feet for spinoff office and biotech research space.
- 500,000 square feet for commercial/retail/office development space.
- 2,700 residential units.

This is the damage that stands to be done. Currently, legal challenges are being filed in regards to two of the construction permits. In the meantime, let's keep the pressure on--contact the mayor, the city council, come out to our protests ... get involved!
