POLITICAL VIEWS:
I am a libertarian/socialist blend, as impossible as that may sound. I think government should exist for the end purpose of maximizing the thriving of each individual human. Government should *not* exist for the purpose of favoring the wealthy over the poor or the powerful over the weak.
I think a government of a nation should collect taxes, and use those taxes to provide infrastructure, health, education, and protection (police and fire) services to all citizens, and limited military protection for the nation (for defense only, *not* world domination or "policeman to the world"; military should be deployed *only* if one's country is attacked, never otherwise). (This is the "socialist" part of my political views.)
I think a government of a nation should limit its spending to less than its income, always. Deficit spending and running-up debts should *not* be allowed.
I think a government of a nation should *never* allow itself to be dominated, controlled, or steered by *any* special interest, especially not business, the rich, or religion. Government must serve The People *only*.
I think a government of a nation should interfere with the actions of its citizens *to the smallest degree feasible*. Government should not interfere with the privacy of people's personal affairs, communications, and records. Government should not take actions (or refuse to take actions) for or against a person based on the person's race, gender, sexual identity, sexual orientation, religion (or lack thereof), or political views (or lack thereof); all persons must have equal rights in the eyes of government. (This is the "libertarian" part of my political views.)
Of all existing political parties, the only party that has a platform which closely mirrors my own thinking is The Green party. And for roughly the first 15 years of The 21st Century (2001-2015) I was, indeed, registered as a member of The Green Party. However, The Green Party has the flaw that no one votes for it. So from 2015 to present, I have been registered as a Democrat, even though I disagree with more of the planks of The Democratic Party than I agree with, because at least Democratic Party candidates sometimes win, so my vote at least has *some* leverage, whereas with The Green Party I felt I was getting no leverage at all.
My second-favorite party is The Libertarian Party. Yes, most people think The Green Party is far-left and The Libertarian Party is far right. I disagree. I think they're both far-left, with The Libertarian Party being the *most* left of any existing party, 100% left. A little *too* left for my taste; my own views coincide more with those of The Green Party.
RELIGIOUS VIEWS:
Literal belief in any religion, superstition, or any other supernatural thing is mental poison. Supernatural things do not exist. (At least, not in the sense of the word "exist" in which a rock or a dog "exists".)
Believe (literally) only that for which you have real, substantial, repeatable, physical evidence. Don't take anything on faith or because an "authority" said so. Think for yourself, instead. Believe in yourself instead. Have faith in your own ability to make this a better world for our descendants, instead. Much more truth, wisdom, beauty, and happiness will come to you that way, than from believing literally in religions.
That being said, I do find some wisdom in some of the writings of some of the world's religions, especially the teachings of Krishna in The Bhagavad Gita (om namo bhagavate Vasudevaya), and the teachings of Buddha in Buddhism (Nam Myoho Renge Kyo), and in the yoga practices of the Sikh religion (sat nam).
But I dislike the three religions of Abraham (Judaism, Christianity, and Islam) because I find them to be too sexist (they treat women like sub-human pets and hate LGBT people and trans people), ageist (priests rape children with gleeful abandon), ableist (these religions frown on people who are not capable of pulling their own weight, which many people simple can't), xenophobic (these religions sew fear of "people who aren't exactly like us"), genocidal (inquisitions, witch hunts, crusades, conquistadors, and 1700 years of gay-bashing), and stagnation-inducing (the Christianity-dominated Dark Ages in Europe, 400CE-1400CE, set-back the scientific and technological advancement of humankind by about 1000 years).
So I refuse to consider myself to be a member of any of the three Abrahamic religions, even on a metaphorical basis. To the extent that I am a member of any organized religions at all, I am a (non-literal) Hindu and a (non-literal) Buddhist. But I will never be a Jew, Christian, or Muslim. I was born an atheist, and while I did try to be "a good little Christian boy" from age 9 through age 12, on my 13th birthday (June 5, 1972), after having spent the last month reading The Bible and realizing that it is solid bullshit from cover to cover, I gave up Christianity and literal religion forever.
You may be wondering, if I'm not a Christian, then how can I have morals? The answer to that is simple: My core values, the values that control my ethics and behavior, are not based on religion, but rather, on these two things: Truth and Love. To the extent that I can be called "religious", these two things are my "religion". (Cue up Ziggy Marley's song "Love Is My Religion" here.)
Why Truth and Love specifically, among all the things I could have chosen as the two I care most about?
Truth, because without a clear, accurate understanding of reality in one's mind, one cannot make good decisions, that is, decisions which which maximize thriving for one's self and one's neighbors.
Love, because without this combining force, the human race disintegrates from one race to 7,410,206,985 individual enemies all fighting and striving against each other. We're all sharing 1 small planet, folks. If we want to survive, we must survive by helping each other, not attacking each other.
Which means that the most-accurate short answer to the question "What religion is Robbie?" is simply this: I am not religious; I am an atheist and a secular humanist.
