The Record-Courier has been serving the Carson Valley community in Northern Nevada since July of 1880 when Boynton Carlisle changed the name of the Carson Valley News to the Genoa Weekly Courier before being run out of town four months later. The newspaper moved to Gardnerville in 1899, where it competed with the newly founded Gardnerville Record. The newspapers merged after the Record burned down in April 1904.
The newspaper, now based in Minden, Nev., is a member of the Nevada News Group, which consists of several newspapers and associated Web sites, including the Nevada Appeal, Northern Nevada Business Weekly, Winnemucca Sun, Lovelock Miner, Battle Mountain Bugle and Lahontan Valley News.
