Happyness, definitely. The Wytches, Douglas Dare, Keaton Henson and Eagulls too

Sleaford Mods, Withered Hand, FOTL, Gruff Rhys... thought Teleman would have been a fairly decent shout for the actual Mercury list.

War on Drugs, Sohn, Cate Le Bon. La Roux. Stunned to see Damon Albarn on that list, such a lacklustre and uninspiring record!

Also just so wrong that that neptune list started being more Standard and tired than the real deal

The point of the Mercury originally was to give wider recognition to left of centre music. It was dreamt up - and I think I'm right in saying this - by the same chap who put together the first Now compilation. It was more about a sales boost for things that didn't teeter into the public consciousness. DiS' Neptune list aims to be a reflection of the finest British album around today and to present our readers (and a potential wider audience) with a few records to explore, ponder and perhaps re-appraise (we included Bryan Ferry a few years ago and got some very pleasantly surprised responses from people who wouldn't have listened to the record otherwise).

Would also go with Eagulls and The Horrors latest offering but I'd like to show some support for Oliver Wilde, The Wytches & Teleman too. Been a great year, especially when you think about some of the overseas bands. I mean Protomartyr, c'mon people.

What's the time-frame? Last October's Lanterns On The Lake record must still be valid, surely? Her name is Calla should also be considered. If not, Mogwai. Eagulls and Dan Michaelson & The Coastguards are all very good in my opinion.

No Sleaford Mods. The industry is shit scared of Sleaford Mods.

Eagulls, Cheatahs, Wild Beasts, The Horrors, Cymbals, Woman's Hour. Should be a good start.

Wild Beasts is a scandalous omission. I'd also vote for Manic Street Preachers (for Futurology rather than Rewind The Film), Future of the Left and Los Campesinos!
