By now, you've probably seen the Mercury list. Who do you think deserves to make it onto DiS' alternative shortlist, The Neptune Album Prize?
Drowned in Sound
To those asking, we do adore the Veils and Nick Cave, and although New Zealand and Oz have British associations, they wouldn't be eligible for the Mercury, as it's based on the place of birth. Not sure either would be able to play football for England either, maybe not worth including them for the sake if comment box pedants...

Absolutely These new Puritans. Album of the year. Steve Mason, Suede, Primal Scream, and Luke Haines would have been nice

Suede. Which I think was the only album that was released this year so the list is a bit mystifying.

Definitely put the Girls Names album forward - really warm sound to it, murky but nicely pop as well. A bit Cure-ish I guess.

Regardless of whether anyone else mentions it, I'm most probably gonna stick the Darkstar record on the list as it really deserves more attention and is a delight.

Smart money's gotta be on Savages - it's a debut, it's a great album, plus an all female band playing dark punky stuff is sufficiently different to win. That's how the game works...

Mercury list is insanely dull and uninspired yet again. How about Mogwai for a bloody change!

Drenge. And not just because it's the only album I've reviewed for DiS this year. Not at all. http:// drownedinsound.c om/releases/ 17798/reviews/ 4146758
