Tietoja henkilöstä The Dramaturgy Open Office Hour Project
The Dramaturgy Open Office Hour Project is a two-part endeavor, launched by dramaturg Jeremy Stoller in April 2014.
In short seasonal semesters, for a few hours every week, one or several dramaturgs sit in a public, easily accessible location, available to offer dramaturgical services to anyone who wishes to stop by.
A blog (opendramaturgy.blogspot.com) documents the sorts of conversations that ensue.
WHAT MIGHT YOU USE THIS FOR?
It could be anything related to new play or research and rehearsal dramaturgy; or play development, literary offices, and script submission.
-Ask questions about submitting plays to theaters (where to submit, what sort of follow-up is useful, etc.).
-Chat about the process of working with a dramaturg, if you're curious about how you might use one on a current script or project for which you're seeking feedback or support.
-Show a draft of a grant/fellowship application that you need proofread or want other feedback on.
-If you're creating a performance piece on your own and have hit a rut, or had a revelation, come talk through your ideas.
-If you've got an audition coming up and want to talk through text analysis with someone or need help finding/cutting a monologue.
WHY DO THIS? you may ask.
-For experiment's sake. To find out: who will be inspired to stop by? will anyone? is this an effective way to share resources or foster collaboration?
-We believe that to know dramaturgs is to love them--and, by extension, dramaturgy. So we want to introduce you to a range of the ones working in your area.
-So many of our regular facilitated gatherings are organized by artistic label (director, playwright, actor), and not across those labels. This is an opportunity for pollination.
-We also hope to make fruitful connections that will result in professional relationships either directly or via recommendations. As freelance dramaturgs, we often find work through word of mouth and reputation. Though this is not the primary objective of the project, we'd like to think that whenever the value of someone's professional services is recognized, the idea is strengthened that the work we all do has value.
-For any artist who feels alone in their process, we want to create a place you can go to talk for a while, and an opportunity to meet some people who could provide more in-depth response, so you can decide if that would be beneficial for you.
This is the most laid-back, low-commitment, user-friendly combo you could find of coffee date, free tasting, Meetup, workshop, and show and tell.
