STATEMENT FROM REP. BRENDAN F. BOYLE REGARDING TRUMP INAUGURATION
Congressman Brendan Boyle
As I wrote last March, I believe Donald Trump is a unique threat to the Constitution and to our country. I have never before used such stark terms to describe an American political leader, Democrat or Republican. I do not use these words lightly. But Trump warrants such dramatic description.
On January 6, as dictated by the Constitution, Congress met in joint session to certify the results of the Electoral College. As a member of Congress, I attended and participated in this joint session. As vehemently as I disagree with the election results, I fulfilled my constitutional obligation.
Now the question turns to whether to attend the Inaugural celebration.
I have always believed the Inaugural of the president of the United States should be a nonpolitical day. As just a regular citizen, it is an event I have always looked forward to watching. Regardless of the person taking the oath and the party taking power, I have always looked at it as a day to celebrate American democracy. It is the continuation of that which started with Washington, the peaceful transfer of power in accordance to the wishes of the people.
The election of Donald Trump presents a challenge to my long held view of presidential inaugurations. As much as I cherish this day, can I in good conscience celebrate that which I believe is a grave mistake? Can I sit by mere yards away and applaud the desecration of the most important office in the history of the world?
After wrestling with this question for the last two months, I have concluded I cannot participate in this Inaugural celebration.
I do not challenge that Mr Trump won the Electoral College and therefore will lawfully be president. We cannot go down a path in which we do not accept the legitimacy of the choice of the people. In America, it is the people who decide.
I accept the decision of the people. I respect it. But I will not celebrate it.
Congressman Brendan F. Boyle
13th District
U.S. House of Representatives

he won't be golfing???he owns golf courses???
Dorecia Elwell-Wilde
Doesn't mean he'll be there hopefully he'll be working for us already said he won't take vacations that will be a change won't it save us some money and if he does take one I'm sure he'll pay for it himself
Theresa Ramsey
Shame on you !!!!
Amerispec-Dave Dibelius
For the congressman, I've already contacted your office. I don't expect a phone call back, as I have yet to hear from you yourself on any issue within our district, most importantly those involving Veterans Affairs. I really don't care what political party somebody is with. But choosing to boycott the inauguration of our United States President as a political figure within the United States is nothing short of childish. I don't recall all the Republicans boycotting President Obama's inauguration. And I certainly don't recall any of our elected officials in Pennsylvania doing so. You were elected to do a job, and uphold the beliefs of your entire district. Man up and stop trying to curry favor with other Democrats. Taking part in a boycott because you don't like who was elected is very childish and pathetic. I expect better behavior from our elected representatives from both sides of the fence
Chente Aguilar
Boyvott by Democrats & Republicans
Ren Bartoe
You represent All Pennsylvanians. You contradict your own position statement regarding inaugurations and are a disgrace to the constitution. I was an Independent for 41 years voting both sides of the aisle. I dipped my head for 8 years under Obama but showed respect for the office and defended my President when traveling internationally. You don't have to applaud, but show respect for the office.
David Altschul
I infer that you believe that Hillary, who pro-actively promised to attack the First Amendment both with the DISCLOSE Act (violating NAACP v. ALABAMA) and her holy war against CITIZENS UNITED was not a "unique" threat to the Constitution, and that the White House would not have been desecrated being occupied by a woman who took 7-figure bribes from oil companies and enemy nations, put our national security at risk by using a private server, lied to Congress, perpetrated 31.160 violations of 18 USC 1519 ( a law she voted into existence as a Senator) and who, upon completing her prior occupation of the White House, stole $200,000 worth of taxpayer property from it. I bet you also believe that our nation was better off under the lame duck, who decreased workforce participation to its lowest point in four decades, brought home-ownership to its tiniest percentage in a half-century, and empowered jihadi Muslim violence at home and abroad.
David Altschul
Thank you, sir.
Reneé C. Cunningham
Larry Sperry that's a lot of anger first thing in the morning there! I don't have to defend the Congressman against ridiculous accusations like that. He's the furthest thing from a racist and his reputation speaks for itself.
David Altschul
Many of us will celebrate when your district decides to be represented by a respectful patriot who doesn't have a weak ego and overblown view of his own importance.
David Altschul
sorry, what's a boyvott"?
Madeline Pieretti
Thank you, I appreciate the courage that you and your fellow members of Congress have demonstrated.
Christopher McCouch
name republicans who stayed away when BO got in? can't? Thought so. I rest my case. Deal with it. YOU LOST. Go cry, pant, squirm, reject, rebel, rebuke, snarl, and whatever else a crybaby does. You lost.
Regina Mehler Louin
Disappointing but not a surprise, at this late date is this best for your political career???
Liam Mc Ginley
Einstein's said that it is a mark of genius to hold two conflicting ideas in one's mind at the same time, without becoming enslaved by either.
Janet Hanson
I am so very disappointed to learn you are representing the state of Pennsylvania, the world is watching and laughing at you and the people you serve. We the people have spoken and you are failing them. What a disgrace you are to America!
Arlene Holtz
I am proud of you for making t his decision, and I support it. We are depending on you to con

to to continue to make wise decisions for the good of our nation. Thank you.
Jennifer Clyburn Simons
The RNC and DNC did a terrible injustice to our country by allowing Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump to participate in the POTUS election. Anyone with serious legal matters pending shouldn't be allowed to run for the highest office in America. Congressmen and Senators should have term limits and we the people shouldn't have to pay for them to not do their job they were elected to do. The whole system is corrupt.
Madeline Pieretti
Traitor, Crybaby?? Do you really wanna use that term?? Let's see......hmmm.... I think that shoe fits the foot of the individual who is about to become the leader of our nation. You can't be thin skinned while dealing with everything that will coming his way. He will be the president, I pray that he grows up and starts acting the way a commander in chief should. I am proud of those taking a stand. We live in America and as such have right to our opinion,as do you.
David Altschul
Jennifer Clyburn VanHorn wow, really? So you support having a handful of political hacks control who will be allowed to run for President? As to term limits, Ii infer you also support ceding even more power to the nameless lifer bureaucrats whose regulation-making power leeches so much of our liberty and prosperity. Thanks for sharing your views.
David Altschul
Jennifer Clyburn VanHorn If your prohibition were enforced, anyone who wanted to torpedo a candidate would need only to file a lawsuit. Sad.

Real gutsy call Rep. Boyle. You waited until a bunch of other Dems in the house decided to do it, now you jump on the bandwagon. What a phony you are. Can I have your tickets?
Lori K Ritchie
Thank you for your contentious objection. I support your decision.
Carol Gilden
Somethings are more important than a political career. It takes courage and conviction to do what you feel is the right thing.
William Sharp
The people voted for Trump and it is your job to work with him or you will be voted out of office. Show respect for our New President
Carol Gilden
Look at above note....
Tim Dawley
Like it or not Donald Trump is going to be the 45th president of the United States. Because of people like you this country is not very United right now. You do not have to respect the man (just like when I was in the military and had to respect the President no matter who it was) but you have to respect the office. It is your job to do so. If you cannot do your job maybe it is time to get someone who will. You not attending just tells me that no matter what Trump wants to change or do you are going to vote against him no matter what the people in your state wants.
Jo Achenbach
As a public servant, you owe this country your time and the honor due to OUR new president. Do something to unite folks not divide
Susan Carcaise Johnson
You and your fellow Democrat Congressmen are the reason for the divisiveness of this country! Grow up!!
Gayle Ricci Herrschaft
Thank you!
Regina Mehler Louin
Agree! sad to be so weak
Regina Mehler Louin
Agree, disgusting!
Regina Mehler Louin
Agree!
Regina Mehler Louin
That is who he really, politician with lots to say but NO action for the people...where has Hillary been when all the companies are leaving our country?????
Paul Skip Concowich
It's disgraceful and you condoning it is disgraceful as well. This divisiveness will destroy this country. Trump will be the next president and its time to move on.
Lisa Engelhardt
I'm a proud American, believe in the system. Please send me your tickets!! Is this action backfiring?? Hmmm..
Stacey Carmody
THANK YOU Congressman for making this statement! You have my vote next time you run!! :)
Connie Delasko Boden
I promise you by your actions I will never vote for another Democrat as long as I live !!!!
Pat Alberti
I will not vote for you again.
Anita Block
I agree. We have to accept it but we certainly don't have to celebrate it. If it were just the oath of office without all the pomp and circumstance of parades, entertainment and balls, then I would say to go and watch that peaceful transition of power. However, the extravaganza of the event makes it totally disgusting. Trump has no moral compass or sense of ethics and is in no way a role model for our youth! I applaud your actions.
Vicki Eckhardt
That's HIS opinion..I expressed mine...
Dottie Varano Capple
Thank you for your eloquent statement. Thank you for doing the job that you were elected to do. Thank for taking a stand for our country and our democracy!
Mary Conner
Back at ya!
Mary Conner
I disagree. I can't/won't support anyone the inauguration. He has the lowest approval rating in decades.
Mary Conner
Get your own, they are easily had.
Raymond Coniglio
Didn't ask you. I want the coward's Rep. Boyle's tickets.
Bruce Henderson
I am very disappointed in you and your colleagues who are boycotting the Inauguration. Overe the past 60 years I have watched these ceremonies with pride. I was not always pleased with the incoming President but was always inspired by the meaning of the day. When George Washington graciously ceded the presidency to John Adams this peaceful transition of power was unique in the world and remains an inspiring model. This is not just about Donald Trump. It is certainly not about you and your feelings. You are free to oppose President Trump and his policies for the next four years if you feel this is serving your constituents and is best for the country - and to run for re-election on that. But by refusing to be a part of this uniquely American ceremony you diminish yourself and bring shame to our district.
Randy Miller
Can someone tell me how Trump is threatening the Constitution.
Theresa Ramsey
United we stand, divided we fall
Frances Doyle
The internment of American Japanese. You are against abortion, BUT you say it is OK to murder the fetus when it can breathe air. Civilized societies don't murder people when the fetus becomes an adult. Ridiculing the disabled. Ridiculing Gold Star mothers.
Valerie Marc
I will do everything I can to see that you are not re-elected!
Sandra Johnson
Surely it is everyone's right to take a moral stance, whether they hold political office or not! Freedom of choice should be respected. We cannot all thinik the same way ... what a boring world this would be if that were the case. I respect the Congressman for standing his moral ground for one day, and then continuing with his political mandate. Society today are too ready to tear each down because we look, feel, sound, or act differently. The man being sworn in on Friday stands for divisiveness and ridicule, and if you all can't see this, then I suggest you take your blinders off!
Tina Swope
As a resident of your state, how can you possible lead our state and nation when you refuse to accept and support our incoming President? Step down or get on board....you and your colleagues are further dividing our country!!!!
Ina Howard-Parker
Bravo! Thank you for standing up for what is right, and for the majority of Americans who repudiate this crooked, hateful, immoral, and wholly unqualified PEOTUS and everything he stands for. I look forward to supporting your principled leadership in Congress.
ML Deitrich
Thank you for standing up for what is right and not attending the inauguration, we appreciate it and hope you will continue to fight this administration's agenda.

I will not support a Fraud and Coward .
Janine M Solley
You should be ashamed of yourself. You represent the PEOPLE and you should be there for the peaceful transfer of power. Wait and see what happens at election time. They will remember this. It's about being a proud American.
Janine M Solley
I switched my party 2 years ago. Alter what has happened the past year so glad I did.
Mary Gulivindala
I am proud to be lead by our wise Representatives knowing they stand for JUSTICE FOR ALL and state their reputations on their beliefs. Thank you! Your choice is a role model for all to live in truth.
Mary Gulivindala
Shame on you. Vindictive & petty just like Trump. This is not a requirement of the office they serve!
Janine M Solley
Mary Gulivindala how am I vindictive? Name calling at its best. Just what I should expect. I happen to be involved in politics and he does represent all people. His his responsibility to be there. Why do you think it's such a big deal that they aren't?? What would have been said if 60 Republicans refused to attend for Obama. It's about being an America.... transfer of power ... the constitution... our great nation. Period.
Natalie Allen Heflin
Return your tickets then because real Americans want to be a part of the tradition of swearing in our next President Donald. J. Trump.
Frank W. Christopher
Brendan, I call you by your first name because you deserve no respect as a rep of people nor of the constitution of the u.s. nor of pa. Please remove yourself from your office as you obviously have no respect to protect the rights of anyone. you should be happy that i am not in your district because i would not put up with your thinking and desire to inflict constituents of such. you are a piece of garbage and are only afraid that WE THE PEOPLE now have a leader that understands that it is pukes like you that work for us not the other way around. stand up for the people and the rights giving to them by our founding fathers. Dont give me this crap that he put down Lewis. I dont by it. Lewis has done nothing to protect the civil rights of any parent within the corrupt family court throughout this nation. grow a set you pansy.
Corey Holland
If you read his statement, he accepts it. He is choosing not to celebrate it.
Heather Howard Russell
No matter who is President as a Representative you should be at that Inauguration. All of you that are "boycotting" disgust me!
William Everett
Boyle I called your Elkins Park office today and asked why you were not attending the Inauguration. Your decision is LOW RENT and shows you have NO CHARACTER. Stay away and pout like little spoiled children. How in hell did you get elected?
Frank W. Christopher
may i remind you Mary that he works for you and not the other way around. his opinion does not matter. he is to abide buy what his constituents desire. if you continue to allow idiots like him to push his desires on the constituents then you should be ashamed of yourself.
Cassandra Felt
Spoken like a true idiot. Please get an education.
Matt Appleton
Dont you have better thi gs to do for the peopke you represent then party like its 1980.
Matt Appleton
I thought we paid representative to work, not party. I prefer him to be in town addressi g the concerns of his constituents.
Yelena Glikman
Shame on you, the people have spoken and you were elected to represent the people !
Heather Howard Russell
Good for you, lol
Lini Kadaba
Thank you for representing the 80 percent plus in Philly who did NOT vote for that man who has no character. Thanks for having a conscience.
Dave Volk
He is suppose to represent all of the people in his District not just the Democrats. What about those in his District that did support trump?
Patrick Sharkey
I am proud to be one of the "Deplorables" as Ms. Clinton called us (another reason she lost). Brendan Boyle is not bright enough to see what has happened and is still following the democrats action that led them to this miserable failure, sad, very sad.
Patrick Sharkey
MaryTheresa Cusati Fellman I am very far from a miserable fool, I am a very happy, contented hard working blue collar union member Father of three beautiful daughters (my union endorsed Clinton and over 50% of our members thumbed our noses to our union leaders and voted for trump. Nothing miserable here, just a proud hard working union man here, Thanks for the kind words Mary Theresa, I will pray for you.
Nicole Kephart
Thank you for standing up for America! I have watched the inauguration of presidents I didn't support or like. But NONE of them totally disrespected the office (and the current President), engaged in questionable foreign diplomacy before taking office, disrespected the press, picked public feuds with private citizens, disparaged even living in the White House, refuses to release his tax returns, not only won't divest himself of his obvious conflicts of interest but wants his family to "run the business" AND serve as White House advisers, and sends obviously unqualified (and in some cases "dangerous") candidates to be running our government agencies. And that's not even considering the fact that he doesn't know what he's doing and doesn't appear to be willing to take advise from those who do. He seems to think being President of the United States is no harder than negotiating another business deal -- even to suggest it's a part-time job! While some of the above may not be illegal -- they all surely tread hard on decency, ethics and common sense!
Bob Colavita
just vote him out
Deborah Owens
that's courage, ty, glad you are our representative.
Barbara Grissani
Thank you for taking the time to explain your thought process.
Roxie Clann Montague
Very disrespectful as a representive of the people. I believe this stand will be the end of your political career
Nora Odendahl
On Friday, Trump will violate the Emoluments Clause of the Constitution by not having placed all his assets in a blind trust. And it is not a congressperson's job to attend inaugurations; Congress is not in session and members often skip inaugurations, as "Politico" notes. Again, I support Congressman Boyle's thoughtful and principled position.
Nadine Lozier Urban
I definitely will never vote for you again!!
Paul Stefanik
Yeah. Good idea. We'll vote him out, in four years.
Marija Robey
No==
Paul Stefanik
Is your argument in any way contingent on the idea that Trump doesn't spew hate? This stance is not coming from a hate based philosophy, it is a statement against hate. Did you read the statement or just mimic something Bill O'Reilly said?
Marija Robey
No--shame on YOU! The majority of the American people did not vote for Drumpf. But regardless--it's a sad day when a person is shamed for speaking his conscience but not for behaving like a total pig as the Electoral College victor has consistently done.
Paul Stefanik
I'm sure he will regret your decision to not vote for him. Your choice to not support Rep. Boyle is so much more nuanced than his decision to not attend the inauguration. By the way, are you going to attend? It seems so important to you, I was just wondering. You must be planning on attending the celebration if you can stomach being so virulent towards another citizen for not attending.
Nadine Lozier Urban
He has the right to not attend as I have the right not to vote for him.
Nadine Lozier Urban
Plus you live in Boston..so why do you care.
Maggie Mc Gee
You should be ashamed of yourself - Philadelphia is not representative of the rest of your state. You should be at the inauguration and celebrating the peaceful transition of power instead of pandering the the cupcakes in your hometown.
Maggie Mc Gee
No he won't because it does not apply to the President.
Cheryl Ann Hess Collins
You say you fight for all Americans for jobs. We elected you whether you like the president elect or not you still are representative of who we voted for. You are supposed to be there in Washington DC to represent us Pennsylvanians to support this country if you like Trump or not. That is what you were elected to do represent the Pennsylvania people. Don't forget that even some of the people that voted for you voted for Trump and you are not allowed to let us down. You are being paid by taxpayers who elected you. I think you all in the government need to remember that. So you and the rest of the people who were voted in to represent us when we cannot be there, need to suck it up,and do what we hired you to do, represent us in Washington DC and not just for your own opinions. But for the opinions of the people who elected you, that is your job. You need to start showing how you can work with people that you don't agree with. Isn't that what we were taught in grade school. You are an elected representative. You need to start acting like an adult. And start working together, even with people you don't agree with. Wouldn't that be nice to show our younger generation that we can accomplish things without throwing a fit or being nasty to other people.
Rachel Perkins
I'm glad you don't represent me, because you aren't representing me.
Linda Newsum
As a lifetime Pennsylvania resident, my family and I are appalled by the behavior of our representatives. Your opinion is just that, the rest of the residents of the state that you supposedly represent have a different opinion and you should respect that.
Susy Lamar Kennett
You represent a state which voted for Trump and has a rep should stand with all Americans as we witness our ability, until you and your idiot colleagues, a smooth transition of power regardless of whether you support thIs new President. I spent 8 years as did your republican colleagues with an Obama administration and guess what, all republicans attended both of his inauguractions. You are a joke and should resign your office as you do not support this country. Grow up!!!!
Yelena Glikman
Marija Robey You sound like the "Tolerant Left" fighting for 'Freedom of Speech". The post was not addressed to you, stop trolling, allow people to exercise the right to speak their mind, and go on with your life, please :-)
Ringo Skoor
good for you! so proud to have voted for you and even prouder that my community did.
Yelena Glikman
Kim Hudlet I guess you can only blame the Russians on adding republican seats to the house, congress, thousands of seats in every state on a local level, oh wait, I think Bush did it
Tracey Johnson
He articulated why he is not going to attend, I read no hate just disappointment with the manner in which the man elected to office conducts business. He was diplomatic something Trump is not. I support his honorable take on why he will not attend.
Tracey Johnson
Please please... Don't ever compare a class act with Trump. This is less about party and more about the man. He has offended colleagues and his own intelligence community days before he took office lets not talk about the campaign trail. It is Trump who should resign...the dictator in waiting...
Paula Siravo Gidjunis
As a lifetime Pennsylvania resident, my family and I applaud your actions. You are standing by your principals. We are glad you represent us.
Paula Siravo Gidjunis
Maggie Mc Gee Your statement is not true. From the Heritage center on the Constitution: "The Emoluments Clause has apparently never been litigated, but it has been interpreted and enforced through a long series of opinions of the Attorneys General and by less-frequent opinions of the Comptrollers General. Congress has also exercised its power of "Consent" under the clause by enacting the Foreign Gifts and Decorations Act, which authorizes federal employees to accept foreign governmental benefits of various kinds in specific circumstances." And this does bring up the number of conflicts of interest that will take place if he does not put his assets in a blind trust. Whether legal or not legal, every action he takes will be put to great scrutiny and should be because of the obvious possibility of him putting his interest first over the American people's interest.
Heather Kerr
I wish you were my Representative! As a fellow Pennsylvanian, I thank you, sir!
Nadine Lozier Urban
"Crickets chirping"
Eric Fox
Because if you are like me you got Gerrymandered into this district by the Dems.
Amy Grant
Shame on you. This is where 8 years of being politically correct and worrying about feelings have taken the liberals. Hypocrites and bullies continuing to keep us divided. Grow up! Half of us had to put up with Obama and if we had acted this way we'd be called racists and bigots. You not only represent the people you work for us too! Put your big boy pants on and act like an adult.
Gary Brice
‪Thank you for your courage!!‬
Elizabeth Walker Rosenthal
In the end we all have to follow our conscience. You can't unhear or unsee Trump's hateful and vindictive actions and words, unless of course you choose to ignore it. I respect your thoughtful decision.
Willy Smith
Will never vote for you again. You represent the people and your behavior is childish and disrespectful. If you cannot support the peaceful transition of power you should step down.
Jo Nelson
Thank you B. Boyle for showing some decency by not attending this circus. I noticed that the majority of comments crying shame and disgust with your decision are white constituents . Where is the shame a disgust for a President Elect that called Mexican Rapist and Murders, will is the disgust for a man who threatens to grab women by the crotch, where is the disgust for a man who mimics a handicapped person, where is the disgust for a man that said that all black people live in hell and are criminals, where is the disgust for a man who refuses to apologize for
Advocating that 5 innocent teenagers be put to death, and when they are found innocent he refuses to admit that he is wrong, where is the disgust for a man who openly brag about having an adulterous affair with another woman while his wife is pregnant, where is the disgust for a man who openly lies about everything, where is the disgust for a man that ran a racist and divisive campaign. I could go on, but try and understand that it may be easy for some of you to overlook this man's morality and character flaws because he is White. As an African America I cannot respect this man. I give him the same respect he gave Minorities, President Obama, the disabled and women . NONE
Sorry to say so many of you would never had tolerated this behavior from our first African American President.
Patty Erni Richey
Very disappointed in your decision to boycott the inauguration! You are supposed to represent all of your constituents, not just the ones that agree with you! I will know better the next time!
Jim Grant
You are selfish and a coward
Linda Doherty Slater
@[47802217:2048:Corey], he is choosing to not honor the peaceful transition of power which has been a testimony of our democracy since the founding of our country. He is childish and divisive. (PS Hope you and your family are doing well. :) )
Linda McDonald
I think it is unconscionable for a representative to boycott the inauguration. What this says to the WORLD is that we do not peacefully and graciously accept the transfer of power. Shame on you. We must give the newly elected president a chance. If he does not uphold the constitution, then actions can be taken. But to not support him as our leader is totally wrong. I have proudly watched the swearing in of many presidents - some I voted for; some I did not; but the ceremony is very emotional. Our country needs to send a positive message to the world about our democracy and how it works.
Frank Cos
A liberal snowflake like yourself can.
Iona Maricelli
Representative Boyle, the People had no say in the election of the president. Mrs. Hillary Clinton had an overpowering people's vote which was changed by the overbalance of right-wing conservatives on the electoral college. Very similar to the 1932 election of the German dictator to office of Chancellor by the right wing conservative party also known as reichtstag
Matt Smith
I will not vote for you again .
Matt Smith
when they go high, we go low, yea right !
Mark Osborne
Helena Glikman, regardless of whom your comment was directed to, you chose a public forum to express your opinion. It is a bit hypocritical for you to tell Marija to censor herself while in the same post arguing for freedom of speech. At the end of the day, if you can't handle people's responses to declarations you publicly make, maybe it's time to put your phone away. 😉
Yelena Glikman
Mark Osborne My comment was directed to Mr. Boyle. There are many comments regarding this issue both negative and positive. I posted my opinion, and if Mr. Boyle would reply to my comment, it would be welcomed because it was addressed to him and not to Marija
Elayne Brick
I normally wouldn't join in here, because I don't believe in arguing about anything, least of all politics, on Facebook, but I am sure your office is counting. I will be voting for you, and volunteering, next election cycle.
Sean Shanaphy
Do you want the number to the Horsham clinic? there are good doctors there that may be able to help.
Brenda Lopez
I dont remember reading that all members of congress and government officals need to attend the inaugural ball. Nor do I remember reading if you dont you should be talked about and disrespected!!! He is a human being and just like us can choose to attend or not. GET OUT YOUR FEELINGS. P.s to those who said they wouldn't vote for him again........GOOD the newer voters will take you place. THANK YOU in advance
Tammie Sebastian Pasquale
Your a Coward! Step down if you can't support our new President!
Stan Skowron
You, Doyle and Evans should be ashamed of yourselves. You are not trying to work with our elected POTUS
Tony Fleming
I strongly suspect most writing here as if they were holier-than-thou have conveniently forgotten how many GOP officials left town rather than attend Obama's inauguration in 2008.
Jim Voos
I find it amusing to believe that district gerrymandering only occurs in Republican districts. To compare the election of Trump to Hitler is pathetic. While I didn't vote for Trump, I understand the major reason why he won the election. He promised the rust belt that they wouldn't be forgotten and he was concerned about unfair trade practices in manufacturing that desecrated their jobs. Something HIllary Clinton didn't address, but instead attacked Trump supporters with her basket of deplorable's comment.
Jim Voos
I have been trying to research this. Do you have numbers to support this? I don't remember any formal boycott. I have found similar boycotts over the Vietnam war. Please point me to a source if you have one.
Susy Lamar Kennett
u r too pathetic to respond to!
Michelle Potts
Shame on you!!!
Melissa Marley Bonnichsen
You are right Janet- the world is watching and there is only one very big disgrace to America that we are all aware of
Tony Fleming
Quickly found this about the 2013 inauguration, which I guess you could argue was worse, since it wasn't a change in party. http://www.capitolhillblue.com/node/46068

If I find the numbers again about 2008, will post.
Elsie Parker
Could I have your tickets? I will pay for overnight delivery. And I have friends who would like tickets too, so any of your buddies not going, I will take them too. Every event is SOLD OUT!
Susan Haney
Get your facts straight...many republican congressmen and women didn't attend Obama's inauguration...you and your cronies are the hypocrites...who held up the work of the congress because from day one Mitch McConnell vowed they would never work with the President!!!
Naomi Herman
Thank you, Rep. Boyle, for acting on your conscience, much the way Gov
Kasich did when he stayed away from the Rep convention in his own state!
Leslie D. Hyde
I support you and thank you for your eloquence.
Herbert Rheinstrom
Go to the Inauguration. Don't be that way.
Bethany Reeves
Bravo, sir.I am sorry the commenters here cannot appreciate the very appropriate distinctions you've drawn between doing your actual, public duty, and giving your personal stamp of approval to Trump.
Edward Smith
Dearest Amy, I am confused. Why do we have to support the inauguration of Trump? Solely because he was elected? We all seem to be confused. The office of Presidency does not change the man. We can look at Obama to see that. We are afforded by the Constitution to vehemently throw off the very Presidency if it is tyrannical, amoral, weak, or anything other than Presidential. Therein lies the problem. Neither candidate in this election were worth supporting. Instead of exercising our right to reject, we saw on both sides mediocrity accepted. Insulting the very intelligence we purport to possess. Now, we have been Trumped in this game, and what we have is not worth a Pence. Soon, you will see oppression of the likes this country has never endured...
Edward Smith
Hello Jo, you are correct. Trump has been afforded great moral latitude. Please know, as a caucasian, I do not support Trump. Nor did I support Obama. Trump is an embarrassment to civility, morality, and intelligence. While Obama may be composed, dignified, sophisticsted and eloquent, he embodies an avante garde esoteric diabolical persona. Few know of Obama's agenda. But it is time everyone knows what he set in motion. In 2013, his visit to Jerusalem was called Brit Amim all over Israel. In English that is Covenant of Peoples. His choice of a Magnolia to plant was an act of symbolism. For, a Magnolia is known by another name. In Paul Standley's 1922 encyclical, Trees and Shrubs of Mexico, a Magnolia is called a Semiramis tree. In case you are unaware, Semiramis is the name of the Queen of Babylon and wife of Nimrod. A fact Obama knows and reveres. Trump is but the latest installment of deception. Barreling towards the globe is World War III. Obama, set that in motion. And out of office, Obama will watch as Trump bares the brunt. Wherever you are Jo, prepare for the worst... truly, I am sorry. Shalom.

Democrat politicians do not have to support Trump if they don't agree with him. They do, however, need to show support for the process and transition of power, just as the Republicans did when Obama was inaugurated. They need to model for all their liberal followers, just like parents do for children, that we practice what we preach; we practice tolerance even for those that we don't agree with. Obama forced tolerance down our throats for the past 8 years through government mandates and when citizens tried to oppose through things like religious freedom there were called bigots and racists. Think what you want about Trump, we felt the same thing about Obama. You may not like the next 8 years but you will have to TOLERATE it just like we did. Practice what you preach or be a hypocrite. The decision is yours...
Kathleen Fudala
Bravo. Despite other comments, I do not see your decision as a disrespect of the country or the office of the President. But when the office of the President is about to be occupied by a character such as Donald Trump, and if you do not believe he is the right man for the job, it would appear to me to be hypocritical to attend. I respect your decision.
Kay McLeod
Well. lots of people do and is this really the time, after losing an election, to disrespect the people you might want to win back next time? For a party that thinks cake makers should do what is right and wouldn't for a second accept that it would be 'hypocritical' to do something they don't believe in, what a garbage stunt your leaders are playing.
Mary Ann Pontician
Thank you for deciding not to attend the sham ceremony scheduled for Jan. 20th.
Mary Ann Pontician
Amy Grant Oh yes, republicans were so gracious and supporting of President Obama. Such a hypocritical statement!
Mary Ann Pontician
We plan to give Trumpet the same measure of respect that republicans gave to the REAL President--that is ZERO
Bonnie Kern Coll
I do not support Trump, but I do honor our democracy. I am very disappointed in your decision. The party is setting a dangerous precedent We are stronger together even when we reject the president's policies.I hope you change your mind.
David Winston
Thank you Congressman Boyle for standing up for the majority of Americans who DID NOT vote for this man.
Amy Grant
I didnt say they supported him. Read before you post. Im talking about tolerance for others. Something the liberals demand from everyone except themselves. We can all agree to disagree and be adult about it. Pouting and turning your backs helps no one and doesnt make others even want to hear your opinions. Practice what you preach.
Eric Gerhardt
Nowhere does it state that elected Reps are "boycotting", or even just failing to attend. It only refers to "Republicans" like operative Ed Gilespe.
Boyle is just another leftist crybaby.
Eric Gerhardt
The majority of Pennsylvanians supported Trump.
And you still think we elect Presidents based on the popular vote.
That's cute.
Jan Marie
It is my belief that all members of Congress and the Senate should be in attendance of the 45th president's inauguration. Not because you support him or not, but because you are a representative of your constituents in your home state. Sometimes as an elected official we are called on to perform tasks that leave an awful taste in our mouths. The inauguration is a celebration of our Constitution and of the American way. Please reconsider your decision, rise above partisan division and represent your state as an American politician and not as a divisive person.
Mark Picciano
We should unite as a country behind the Constitution and the institutions it created. It’s not about the results so much as the process; even when the Oval Office is handed to the candidate we didn’t support, we have faith in the checks and balances that the founders designed.
Jill Craig
Pa resident- While I, too, have grave concerns about the incoming administration and the divisive rhetoric we have all heard, I do believe the peaceful transition of power is a hallmark of our democracy. We must unite to stop the vitriol behind his ardent alt-right supporters, not give them more ammunition.
David Winston
I don't think that's how we elect Presidents. That doesn't change the fact that more Americans voted for Hillary.
David Winston
He's not going. How much more peaceful could he be?
Iona Maricelli
In 1932 the German 'congress was one party, the reichstag, later called the Nazi party the right wing conservatives which is the proper name translated to English. The German people loved him. They were overjoyed because he was a great orator and leader which he was. America now has a congress over balanced with right wing conservatives. which is the majority of the electoral college.
Iona Maricelli
Sean Shanaphy learn your world history. I lived in the time of the dictatorship of Adolph Hitler. I remember films of the carnage that was caused by their great leader, who was also an egomaniac. Memory is a gift of God that time (and people who do not agree ) cannot destroy. My Aunt was a German war bride, she and her father came here, to freedom and safety. they had no reason to lie, nor do I.
Shirl Murphy Hollerbach
You represent my district and I have to say that your excuse for not going is LAME! You should hold your head high and represent the people that elected you!
Regina Kirk
Kudos for listening to your conscience.

Heard you on NPR. Thank you for speaking truth to power. Well stated.
Kate MacDermott Smith
After many years of voting for you as a Republican, from when you were starting out until this past election, I always thought that you would represent your constituents.. I can see now that you only represent your own feelings.. Unless you are able to give your tickets and full Congressman access to the Inauguration to someone that would like to attend, I feel that you have a responsibility to be there to represent you constituency and be prepared to work with the incoming administration and not hide from attending a non required event. I certainly hope you're spending your day tomorrow in your office making a better future for the citizens of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania as it appears that you are not interested in working on a bi-partisan level.
Ron Chambers
then maybe you should just resign

Well said.
Lynn Papouschek-Wrzesinski
I'm a Republican that voted for you when you started. I was excited for your youth and what said while running for office. My friends that are Republicans did the same and now we are so disappointed in your decision not to attend the Inauguration. The Inauguration celebrates America too. It is what we do as Americans every 4 years. You are a Representative of the people and our area. You can change your mind and go. Stop being a follower and be a leader!.
I will look for you there tomorrow and if you didn't change your mind I can guarantee you that this voter and Proud American will not be voting for you again.
Chris Marcheskie
This the same press release the other 49 released.
Sandy Zygmont
I heard on KYW this morning that Philadelphia will be the only city in the US not represented.
Laura Ann Różycki Feldman
I am not Pro Trump but I am Pro USA. It is times like these that we need to double down and be a watch dog of what will happen in the next four years and minimize any damage to our country. I believe this includes being present every moment of those four years. It is important to be a witness to these moments in our history. In my opinion, your should be there tomorrow. I am saddened by your decision not to be.
Rosemary Cataldi
I stand in solidarity with each congressperson who aligns his or her core values with their behavior in all situations. Freedom is not compliance. Freedom grants us the opportunity to make these choices.

Thank you.

Thank you for listening to your conscience. We cannot celebrate a Civil Rights icon on Monday, and then celebrate a racist on Friday. You still have my vote... @[581102605:2048:Natasha Nasser]

Thank you for saying it as it is.
The Nationalist's Mr. Trump represents are the biggest threat to the vision of the founding fathers on the greatest nation of earth, and contradicts patriotism in every way. Even if many Nationalist out there would like to see the world as a few elites enslaving the rest of the world, the ages of ancient Rome are long gone, and their dream to bring such terror on the world again shall never be realized.
Kay McLeod
Were you in favor of 'nationalism' during WW2 or would you have preferred this nation cave to a power because it would be bad to put the people in this country first? Difficult times require difficult solutions. Do you want to lose your voice to some far away bureaucrat in another country as the British felt they did to the EU? Or should you and your concerns be listened to by someone more local, accountable to you? You've written here so you must prefer the latter.
Kay McLeod
I ask all of you to reconsider your actions today and attend the inauguration for the sake of the COUNTRY. You'll look statesmanlike, that you lodged your discontent, but value a strong country above all. This way you folks look petty and destructive to anyone but hyperpartisan supporters and frankly you need the votes of the people you're turning off over this. I've asked John Lewis to reconsider and be the bigger man. It is bad for the country and the political process to call any president 'illegitimate' and no one should be getting behind that. It is a cheap, dangerous trick by a party that seems to have run out of better ideas. Show us that isn't true and do the right thing.
Jude Bollinger Bucci
As a constituent of your 13th District, I'm in complete SUPPORT of your decision. I know it was a tough decision and you would receive negative feedback. My friends and I have decided to do our part and have a black-out on news today (Inauguration Day) to register our opinion of the new regime. We support you, Rep Boyle!!
Grace Furey
Thank you for standing by your ethics and beliefs.
Donna Grei
I am glad at least SOME of our elected official are taking a stand against fascism. DO NOT NORMALIZE what Trump is trying to do.
Leslie Scott
Hi, my name is Leslie and I live in Ambler, PA.
I'm mailling to ask Representative Boyle to commit to voting NO on the nomination of Scott Pruitt to head the EPA. We've worked too hard for new protections on our air, water and climate to let Pruitt dismantle them.
Thank you.
Very truly yours,
@[1408343239:2048:Leslie Scott]
Christine Stangl
Thank you for your support and service. You are on the right side of history. We should never normalize Trump.
Usama M Al Amoudi
I believe there is a.better way than the Facism and Nationalism competing for power today, and that is the old Patriotism. Everybody preaches it but nobody practices it anymore.
Raye Lauren Warwick
Thank you for representing the millions of us who did not vote for this person to become President. God help us all. Please stay strong in voting against the far right wing agenda he and his incompetant cabinet choices try to foist on America just to blindly try to undo anything a black man in the White House voted for without even proposing alternatives. It is a search and destroy mission against America.
Pat Stahura
I stand behind you. Thank you for not legitimizing the man who represents the darkside of humanity. Please fight for Healthcare, Medicare, Medicaid, social security, religious freedom and a place of refuge for all.
Pat Stark McConnell
I don't know any other way to thank you for inviting me to like your page. I am a native of Illinois, spent 33 years in Montana and now live in Alabama the experiences of living in different regions has given an interesting outlook on Americans.

As one of your constituents, I just wanted to say thank you for doing this. I believe that you, and the other elected officials from PA who did not attend, did the right thing.
Ingrid C. Llewellyn
There is nothing to celebrate and given Russia's interference, Trump's ties with Russia, Crosscheck and many other things, this was not a legitimate election and everything he stands for is so repulsive and vile it is hard to believe this is my country. It is my country, but he is not my president and I applaud you for not attending. People need to start saying "no" to him, fighting for our rights, pushing back. Thank you.
