KEATING SECURES $900K FEDERAL GRANT  FOR QUINCY DOWNTOWN PROJECT

Washington, DC – Rep. Bill Keating is pleased to announce that the Quincy Downtown Development Project has been awarded a $978,300 grant by the US Department of Transportation.  Rep. Keating has been lobbying for support of the project to various federal agencies since taking office eight months ago.

The grant, which is part of the Transportation, Community, and System Preservation Program, will go to the Massachusetts Department of Transportation for the design and engineering of the Adams Green public space.  Specifically, the funds will improve the intersections supporting the Green as well as pedestrian and bicycle thruways.

“The Quincy Downtown Development project is a model for what we should be doing across the country – upgrading our infrastructure while preserving and promoting our heritage,” said Rep. Keating.  “These types of projects improve our communities and local economies.  But most importantly, they put people back to work with honest, good-paying jobs that will benefit all residents.  This grant is a tremendous step forward in the project’s progress, and I am happy to celebrate this development with the Mayor and all our local representatives who have been working hard to bring the Downtown Project to fruition.”

“This grant is an important part of the foundation for what will be the most substantial economic development project in our City’s history, creating thousands of new construction and permanent jobs and bringing more than $1 billion in private investment to the heart of our downtown,” said Quincy Mayor Thomas P. Koch. “Congressman Keating has brought to Washington a tireless commitment to job creation and economic growth on behalf of our City, and I am grateful for his hard work and look forward to continuing to work together as this unprecedented project moves forward.”
