Washington, DC – Today, the House Committee on Homeland Security announced that Rep. Bill Keating would serve as Ranking Member of the Subcommittee on Oversight, Investigations, and Management.
Rep. Keating had already been asked to serve on three Committees, an unusual request of a freshmen member. Being named Ranking Member of the Oversight Subcommittee only further signifies a vote of confidence in Rep. Keating from the committee leadership.
“I was honored when Ranking Member Thompson asked if I would serve as Ranking Member of the Oversight Subcommittee and appreciative that he recognized my passion for the matters governed by the Homeland Security Committee,” said Rep. Keating. “I relish the opportunity to delve deeper into the many issues plaguing our national security and believe this position is a natural transition from my background as a prosecutor. In fact, the Oversight Subcommittee is the perfect vehicle to continue my call for an investigation into our airports’ perimeter security, among other issues. I look forward to working with Ranking Member Thompson, Chairman King and Oversight Subcommittee Chairman McCaul to ensure that every American remains safe from those that wish to harm our way of life.”
“I want to congratulate Congressman Keating on his nomination by his peers to be Ranking Member of the Committee’s Oversight, Investigations, and Management Subcommittee. I know his experience as a District Attorney will be invaluable in his new capacity and I look forward to working with him on the issues that affect the Department of Homeland Security,” said Committee Ranking Member Bennie G. Thompson.
