Buchanan Cosponsors Legislation Requiring Senate Confirmation Of Czars
In recent weeks, many people have asked me about the policy “Czars” that have been appointed in the Obama Administration. I wanted you to know that I have co-sponsored legislation (H.R. 3226) that will require these Czars to undergo the public scrutiny of a U.S. Senate confirmation.
If these un-elected individuals are to be given sweeping responsibility and authority within the Administration, then it is only appropriate that they undergo the same rigorous review as other high-level appointees.
For example, one of these czars is at the Federal Communications Commission, which oversees the airwaves in America. Some in Washington are now working to reinstate the so-called Fairness Doctrine, which would undermine free speech and the First Amendment. The Fairness Doctrine was abolished during Ronald Reagan’s presidency. I will fight any attempt to reinstate it.
And I will continue to oppose ill-advised Administration policies that move our country in the wrong direction, whether it is reckless spending, government takeover of our health care or higher taxes on small businesses and individuals.
Thanks for reading this update. Please let me know what you think about the issues I have mentioned above, or anything else of interest to you or your family.
Sincerely,
-Vern Buchanan
Member of Congress
