WITTMAN FIRST TO FILE FOR THE FIRST: Begins Sprint Towards Reelection
Saluda, VA – Today, incumbent Congressman Rob Wittman was the first candidate to file his petition signatures in order to be placed on the Republican ballot. Wittman, who first won election to the House in a special election in 2007, and is finishing his first full term in Congress, is vowing to carry out an aggressive campaign and bring a positive message of change that is needed in Washington.
In filing more than double the required signatures Wittman noted, "I'm encouraged by the overwhelming response that I received when collecting signatures and sincerely appreciate the time that volunteers put into the effort. It reaffirms the First Congressional District's desire to send public servants to work in Washington on their behalf, rather than send those who work on behalf of the Washington establishment".
Wittman added, "This year Virginians and Americans alike will be faced with a choice: are we going to have a country where small businesses are able to thrive and citizens are free to make their own creative choices, or are we going to have one where the government inhibits creativity and decides what is best. I'm on the side of those who believe in individual freedom and the ingenuity of the American people, and I aim to continue to bring that message to the folks in Washington".
In order to be placed on the ballot, candidates are required to file 1,000 signatures of registered voters from the district they are seeking to represent. Wittman is set to officially kick off his reelection campaign on April 19 and 20 with events throughout the First Congressional District. Details will be announced in the coming days.
