-- UPDATE September 7 10:30pm GPD is assisting UFPD with another reported attack. UFPD was called around 9:40pm to the report of a male pulling down a female near McCarty hall on UF Campus. It is not yet confirmed if this incident is 100% linked to the below. The suspect description tonight is somewhat different: 6'1" 185lbs white male wearing an orange tee shirt, black gym shorts and a black baseball cap. Tonight's suspect does not have facial hair. Multiple units are on the ground investigating, searching and following leads. Please call UFPD at 392-1111 with any tips or sightings of the suspect. UPDATE 4:00PM The person we are seeking appears to be at least 6'3" tall and maybe more. Hopefully this detail will refresh someone's memory. **This post will be updated with new information as it becomes available and is intended to be a one-stop page for information related to these incidents. Please bookmark this page.** SUMMARY There have been multiple reports of attempted sexual battery around UF Campus either near University Avenue or SW 13th Street. We are fairly certain that the same suspect is responsible for incidents 1 and 2, and possibly 3. Incident 1: LEAD: Gainesville Police 1800 block of NW 2nd Ave Approximately 9:30PM 8/30/14 Victim was walking alone near the 1800 block of NW 2nd Ave when the suspect punched the victim and dragged her to the side of the building. He ripped off her underwear and attempted to sexually batter her. A citizen heard the commition and exited his house to confront the suspect. The suspect fled the area on foot. The victim suffered facial injuries and some scrapes/bruises. She did complete a rape kit at the hospital. Incident 2: LEAD: Gainesville Police 500 SW 13th Street Approximately 12:45am 8/31/14 Victim was walking south on SW 13th Street. She was reportedly attacked from behind and pulled into the bushes. The suspect attempted to sexually batter her, but she screamed. Bystanders heard the screams and responded and the suspect fled into campus on foot. Victim did complete a rape kit at the hospital. Incident 3: (UNFOUNDED) LEAD: University of Florida Police UF Campus NEAR Library West Approximately 2:30am 9/5/14 Victim cut through campus and was attacked from behind by the suspect. The victim provided roughly the same desciription as the others from earlier in the week. Victim did not complete a rape kit. SUSPECT DESCRIPTION: White Male 20-30 years old 6'3" or taller ~250 lbs Medium build, possibly with a large stomach Investigators from the Gainesville Police Department and the University of Florida Police Department are working extremely closely with each other on these cases. We are increasing patrols in the areas and will continue to do so until this person is identified and/or arrested. We are in the process of reviewing surveillance video and other forensic details to determine the suspect identity.
