It may surprise some that in New Jersey, the most densely populated state, forests cover 42% of the land. From the sandy soils in the pinelands to the towering hardwoods in the north, New Jersey’s forests contain a rich habitat for a diversity of species, as well as a place for residents to escape.
Trees and forests also improve our quality of life - they decrease runoff, filter pollutants from the air and water, shade our homes, and have even been shown to revitalize our mood.
To enjoy these benefits tomorrow and into the future, we must work to maintain and improve forest health across our state. You can help - be careful with fire, look out for destructive insects and diseases, and plant trees to help create a greener New Jersey.
