Police shot a 13-year-old boy who was experiencing a mental health episode. Police were called because help was needed but instead more harm was done when officers from the SLPD expected a 13-year-old experiencing a mental health episode to act calmer and collected than adult trained officers. When experiencing a mental health crisis your ability to think rationally and respond promptly is impaired.

During the week Neurodiverse UT will put out more information on individual, family, and community alternatives to police in responding to a mental health crisis.
I hope the police officer who shot this poor adolescent child, if found guilty, and not only sent to jail, but also has to work with autistic children to gain an understanding what parents go through on a daily basis!! Sometimes the rage these kids get is beyond something a mother can handle by herself (been there done that). I have learned that the police is not the answer, if at all possible. Call people Crisis services or like I said, what ever agency is in Utah or any other state) as they understand and will take the necessary steps to keep you child safe.
My prayers are with you for a speedy recovery of your son!! And my God give you the strength to be strong as you go through this awful tragedy. 🙏🏻
challenging and enjoyable curricula for people with intellectual disabilities is needed. Educators and federal mandated / state mandated guidelines need to remove arbitrary constraints and embrace neuro diversity especially in learning styles and needs.
"Finding out that I'm autistic brought me an overwhelming sense of relief. My whole life, up to that point, finally made sense. My paradigm about myself shifted.
"I wasn't a failed neurotypical person.

When money is directed towards causal research it is directed away from helping Autistic people thrive. Donate your money towards groups that are Autistic led, prioritize research that Autistic people want, avoid ABA, and are pro Neurodiversity.
We deserve to live in world that accepts , us appreciates us, and accommodates our individual needs.
April is a tough month for a lot of autistics. Hang in there

Super love that “Autism Acceptance Month” is just a month where Autistic people get to argue an order of magnitude harder for the right to exist, while “well-meaning allies” run fundraisers left and right for organizations that want to employ eugenics to eradicate us completely. }

If your “Autism Advocacy” program is striving to “end Autism,” that’s not an advocacy program, that’s a pro-eugenics hate group. }
