Labor Day, the first Monday in September, is a national tribute to the contributions workers have made to the strength, prosperity, and well-being of our country. There really are few things in life as satisfying as a “job well done!” We need to bring back vocational training as early as middle school. We have a whole generation of kids who don’t know how to use their hands to build or fix things. Our country needs these skilled young men and women in the worst way!
One of the greatest joys I had as a young man was wanting a car I couldn’t afford (a VW Convertible), but because I knew how to use my hands, I built it instead. It took going to a junkyard and buying 3 rusted out heaps. With the help of my friends and family, we used the front of one, the back of another and the floor pan off of the third. It took 2 years. But in the end (after putting every screw, nut, bolt, wire and sewing the interior myself) I had the car of my dreams. A true "Labor of Love". Wishing everyone a safe Labor Day!
