Almaden Quicksilver Wildflowers on Poppy Day, 4/6/21 by Ronald Horii
April 6 is California state holiday: Poppy Day.

It's dedicated to the state flower, Eschscholzia californica, the California poppy. On April 6, 1903, the poppy was designated as the state flower. April 6 was declared to be California Poppy Day in 2010.

I happened to be in the Almaden Valley shopping, so I went to the nearest place where I knew there would be a lot of poppies: the Senador Mine Trail in Almaden Quicksilver County Park. Most of the wildflowers are around the site of the old Senador Mine. Mining activity has disturbed the soil in a way that seems to promote the growth of native wildflowers. This is actually one of the best places for wildflowers in the park.
