16.5-Mile Bay Trail Biking, Palo Alto to Menlo Park 10/18/20 by Ronald Horii
On 10/18/20, I went for a 16.46-mile bike ride on the San Francisco Bay Trail, starting in the Palo Alto Baylands and ending in Menlo Park by Facebook headquarters. The significant part of this ride is that I used the newly-opened section of the Bay Trail in Ravenswood Open Space Preserve. That long-planned and long-awaited 0.6-mile connection finally opened up this year, joining two enormous trail networks. I rode in the southern trail network last week when I went on a 26-mile ride from Alviso to the Palo Alto Baylands: https://tinyurl.com/yxeajgkp. This time, I extended that ride, continuing north to the Dumbarton Bridge and to Facebook. If I'd had more time, I could have gone even farther north to Bedwell Bayfront Park or East across the Dumbarton Bridge to the East Bay. I parked on Faber Place off of Embarcadero Road, next to Anderson Honda. At the end of Faber Place is the start of the Renzel Trail, part of the Bay Trail in the Palo Alto Baylands. I went in the other direction, crossing Embarcadero Road to reach the start of the sidewalk trail leading to the Baylands Athletic Center at the end of Geng Road. The San Francisquito Creek Trail entrance is at the end of the parking lot. The mileage was measured with a cellphone app., starting from where I parked. My travelzoom camera is in the shop, so I took all of these pictures with my Moto E4 smartphone. It takes decent wide angle pictures, but has terrible digital zoom, so none of these are zoom pictures.

I biked part of this route in August and explored more of the Ravenswood Area. This has more about the new connector trail: Stevens Creek Trail to New Ravenswood Trail, 8/8/20:

I rode the connector trail to University Avenue, but I didn't really take advantage of it to go to the trail network beyond. That's what I did today.
