Anderson Lake County Park: What's Closed and Still Open 10/4/20 by Ronald Horii
Anderson Reservoir is scheduled to be drained down to 3% capacity, the lowest it can be drained to with its existing infrastructure. After that, a new 1400-foot drainage tunnel will be cut into the hillside to increase the outflow capability. After that, the dam will be removed and replaced. The whole process will take about 10 years. Because of the construction activity, parts of Anderson Lake County Park will be closed to the public. On 9/30/20, the day before dewatering was scheduled to begin, I visited Anderson and took these pictures to record what it was like just before the closure: https://tinyurl.com/yxhex72w
On 10/4/20, I came back to see what was closed and what was still open. Here's what I saw.
(The Rosendin Park section is supposed to be mostly still open, but is only accessible through the Holiday Lakes Estates neighborhood, which is a long detour and is technically private. The Coyote Creek Trail is totally unaffected by the closure. The Coyote Creek Visitor Center is closed due to COVID-19, not the dam project.)
