Goodbye Anderson Reservoir, 9/30/20 by Ronald Horii
On 10/1/20, the dewatering of Anderson Reservoir is scheduled to begin. https://www.valleywater.org/news-events/news-releases/santa-clara-county-recreation-areas-around-anderson-dam-and-reservoir-set
Anderson Reservoir will be drained to what they call "deadpool," the lowest the reservoir can be drained with the existing infrastructure. It will still leave 3000 acre-feet in the reservoir, making it about the size of Stevens Creek Reservoir. Starting in 2021, a new 24-foot wide outlet tunnel will be excavated into the side of the hill surrounding the dam. When that it complete, they will remove the old dam and replace it with a new one. The whole process will take 10 years. In the meantime, the reservoir and some of the surrounding areas will be closed to public access. I came to Anderson Lake County Park on 9/30/20 to get one last look at the park and reservoir before it closes.
I came back on 10/4/20 to see what was actually open and closed: Anderson Lake County Park: What's Closed and Still Open 10/4/20:
