Sunset and Supermoon Eclipse Viewing, Sierra Vista OSP 9/27/15 by Ronald Horii
On Sept. 27, 2015, there was a combination of a supermoon and a lunar eclipse. A supermoon is annual occurrence when the moon is closest to the earth. The moon appears larger than normal. A lunar eclipse, caused by the moon passng through the shadow of the earth, is a much rarer occurrence. The combination of the two is very rare. The last one occurred in 1982. The next one won't occur until 2033. To provide a special viewing opportunity of this phenomenom, the Santa Clara Valley Open Space Authority held a moon-viewing event at the Sierra Vista Open Space Preserve. — at Sierra Vista Open Space Preserve. (near Sierra Vista Open Space Preserve)
