Sierra Vista Trail Winter Hike, 2/16/15 by Ronald Horii
On Monday, Feb. 16, 2015, after hiking the Aquila Trail in Sierra Vista Open Space Preserve, my son and I went for a hike on the Sierra Vista Trail. I've been on the Sierra Vista Trail since it opened in 2011: http://www.stpfriends.org/SierraVista/TrailDedication11.html
Except for special events, getting to it required taking a long steep hike up from Alum Rock Park, which is closed on Mondays. Last year, a new staging area on Sierra Road was built and dedicated on 8/23/14: http://www.stpfriends.org/SierraVista-14/Dedication14.html
Instead of hiking up to the trail, starting from the staging area, you hike down to the trail. All the other times I've been to Sierra Vista, it's been in the summer or fall, when the hills were brown. This time, the hills were green. We didn't take the whole trail, just the part that runs relatively level along the steep hillside. — at Sierra Vista Open Space Preserve. (near Sierra Vista Open Space Preserve)
