Alviso Slough Trail to San Francisco Bay by Ronald Horii
On 10/12/14, the Day on the Bay celebration was held at the Alviso Marina. (See: https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.816274171729440.1073741865.100000405933924&type=1&l=d58c66c516) After it was over, I took a bike ride down the Alviso Slough Trail to where Alviso Slough ends at San Francisco Bay. It's part of the San Francisco Bay Trail. The trail runs on levees surrounding former salt ponds. The total loop is about 9 miles. The trail follows along the Alviso Slough, then it turns to follow the Coyote Creek Slough inland, then turns south and follows the railroad tracks back to the Alviso Marina. Along the east side is a train crossing that leads to the Mallard Slough Trail, which runs for another 5 miles or so. I didn't have time to do the whole loop, so I just did an out-and-back along Alviso Slough, beginning and ending at Alviso Marina County Park. The tide was high, but to see pictures of the same route at an extremely high tide, called a king tide, see: http://www.stpfriends.org/Alviso_02-09-13/Alviso.html — at Alviso Marina County Park. (near Alviso Marina County Park)
