CNPS Hike at Calero County Park, 5/5/24 by Ronald Horii
On 5/5/24, there was a hike at Calero County Park by the California Native Plant Society (CNPS), Santa Clara Valley Chapter. It was led by Tom Lee, with Arvind Kumar sweeping. 12 people showed up. The hike was 3.6 miles, with a 650 foot elevation gain. We took the Oak Cove Trail to the Pena Trail, down the Los Cerritos Trail, and returned on the Oak Cove Trail. This is a travelog of our hike, showing some of the plants that we saw. Calero is a huge park. It has 4.471 acres, with 18.9 miles of trails. It adjoins and connects to Rancho Canada del Oro Open Space Preserve, which covers 5,675 acres, with 12 miles of trails. It is very close to 4,163-acre Almaden Quicksilver County Park and 1,673-acre Santa Teresa County Park. Here's information about Calero County Park: https://parks.sccgov.org/santa-clara-county-parks/calero-county-park.
