Fontana Park, Almaden Valley, San Jose, 3/14/24 by Ronald Horii
On 3/14/24, I went to check out Guadalupe Oak Grove Park (I made this album: https://tinyurl.com/2rzkmsb5) and Jeffrey Fontana Park. I wanted to see how the latter's trees and native plant landscaping was doing. Here's information about the park: https://www.sanjoseca.gov/Home/Components/FacilityDirectory/FacilityDirectory/2239/. The park, along with neighboring TJ Martin Park, is supported by the Martin-Fontana Parks Association: https://saveourparktrees.wordpress.com/. The neighborhood group was formed after PG&E planned to remove 140 trees in the park. They got the neighborhood together to opposed that plan and worked with the city and PG&E to come up with a landscaping plan. As part of the plan, they designed and created landscaping that emphasized native plants. Here are pictures of the park from McAbee Road to Meridian Avenue. There's another part of Fontana park from McAbee Road to Almaden Expressway. TJ Martin Park runs from Meridian Avenue to Coleman Road.
