Santa Teresa Park's Norred Trail After the Rains, 2/24/24, 3/4/24 by Ronald Horii
In November-December of 2023, the Joice and Norred Trails of Santa Teresa County Park were renovated. Here are pictures of the Norred Trail on 12/9/23, right after construction was done: https://tinyurl.com/yvfpsyc8. We've had above-average rainfall so far this season, but not torrential rains like last year. It's been enough to get the trails wet and test out the reconstruction efforts. Unlike the steep Joice Trail, the Norred Trail is relatively flat once you get there. That means means water tends to run across it, rather than down along it. It doesn't get deep erosion grooves, like the Joice Trail, but it does get muddy in places, particularly near the start of the trail by the Joice Trail junction and near the Norred Ranch. On 2/24/24, I hiked the Norred Trail from the Bernal Ranch, until I hit a muddy spot that I didn't want to try crossing. On 3/4/24, I hiked the other end of the Norred Trail, starting from the Norred Ranch, up to the muddy spot. Below are pictures from the 2 hikes, showing how the trail has faired during the rains so far. Note the dates.
