Almaden Quicksilver North Trail Conditions & Wildflowers, 2/28/24 by Ronald Horii
On 2/28/24, I went for a hike in the north side of Almaden Quicksilver County Park. I took the Senador Mine Trail to the New Almaden Trail. I took that to the Mine Hill Trail, which I followed partway to a viewpoint, Then I came back on the Guadalupe and Senador Mine Trails. I checked out the trail conditions and looked for wildflowers. We have had many rainy days this winter, but not heavy rain. The trails are not too bad, but they have some wet spots. All this rain has been good for the vegetation. The hills are green, but it's mostly from non-native grasses. It's a little too soon for most wildflowers, but there are some early-season flowers blooming. Below are pictures of what I saw. Here are pictures from last March, after heavy rains: https://tinyurl.com/556e3aph. Here are pictures from last April, when more flowers were blooming: https://tinyurl.com/bdenhuh9. Here's more information about the trails in the park: http://www.newalmaden.org/AQSPark/index.html. Here are more of my pictures of Almaden Quicksilver: http://www.newalmaden.org/#Pictures.
