Coyote Peak Hike: Plants, Trails, Views, and Cows, 2/22/24 by Ronald Horii
We've had above-normal rainfall so far this season. It is about 136% of normal to date. On 2/22/24, I went to Santa Teresa County Park to see the effects of all this rain. Fortunately, the rain was on and off and spread out over many days. There has been a couple dry days since the last rain, so the trails have had time to dry out. I hiked up the Hidden Springs Trail to the Coyote Peak Trail, starting from the Pueblo Area. My goal was to see the Coyote Valley, particularly Laguna Seca, from the top of the Boundary Trail. I was also looking to see how much water is flowing, how the vegetation is doing, and if any flowers are blooming. Coyote Peak is the highest point in the Santa Teresa Hills and has 360-degree views. It's one of the best viewpoints in the county. Below are pictures from the hike.
