Chinese Lunar New Year at the Casa Grande, 2/16/24 by Ronald Horii
The Santa Clara County Parks posted this announcement:
"Stop by Almaden Quicksilver County Park and celebrate the recent start of the Chinese New Year by joining one of our upcoming crafternoons!✂️
🏮During the month of February, starting on the 16th, visit the mining museum at the historic Casa Grande to enjoy the seasonal decorations and a❗️FREE❗️staff led craft!
12pm - 4pm; Drop-in event, no registration required." On 2/16/24, I dropped by the Casa Grande to check out the event. The museum was closed for almost a year due to repairs and upgrades required to the HVAC system and elevator. It was closed more recently for replacement of the HVAC cooling towers. Finally, it reopened to the public on 2/16/24, hopefully for a long time. It was decorated for the Chinese Lunar New Year, and there were related crafts for kids. Below are some pictures of the Casa Grande that I took today. They are not a comprehensive guide to the museum, but show some highlights and changes. This is not the first time this occasion has been celebrated at the museum. There was a Chinese Lunar New Year Living History Day on 2/18/20: https://tinyurl.com/rjcppbn. For more information about the museum, see: https://parks.sccgov.org/plan-your-visit/activities/cultural-venues/almaden-quicksilver-mining-museum. It is open on Fridays through Sundays from 12 to 4 pm. For park information and map, see: https://www.sccgov.org/sites/parks/parkfinder/Pages/AlmadenPark.aspx.
