Coyote Creek and Ponds at Sunset, 1/24/24 by Ronald Horii
This winter has started out relatively dry, but we're starting to get some decent rain. I was curious to see how much water was flowing in Coyote Creek. On 1/24/24, I went for a walk on the Coyote Creek Trail, starting at Metcalf Park. It was near sunset when I reached the Coyote Percolation Pond. I crossed over the creek bridge to see how much water was flowing in Coyote Creek. I checked Parkway Lake to see how much water was in it. The Coyote Percolation Pond's dam is being rebuilt, so water is not being contained in the pond. It is essentially a wide part of Coyote Creek. A lot of water is flowing in from Coyote Creek, since the outlet of Anderson Dam is wide open to keep the reservoir from filling up (https://www.valleywater.org/project-updates/c1-anderson-dam-seismic-retrofit). That's caused flooding downstream. The Coyote Creek Trail is closed between the Coyote Ranch and Bailey Avenue. Note that the pictures below were all taken with my phone (Samsung A42), except for the last 2. Here's what the flooding on Coyote Creek was like last year and how it stopped suddenly after Anderson was drained: https://tinyurl.com/mr2pnhu4
