Kelley Park BioBlitz, 1/20/24 by Ronald Horii
On 1/20, Keep Coyote Creek Beautiful (KCCB), headed by Deb Kramer, sponsored and organized a BioBlitz at San Jose's Kelley Park. It was led by entomologist Merav Vonshak. A BioBlitz is a citizen scientist group effort to observe and record plants, insects, animals, or any living things using the iNaturalist app in a particular area within a specified time frame. A large group gathered in the parking lot by the disk golf course. We split into multiple small groups. I followed several of them. It was organized by biologist Merav Vonshak, who has been holding BioBlitzes in other parts of the county. She created the BioBlitz Club website, which has information about BioBlitzes and scheduled events: https://www.bioblitz.club/, https://www.facebook.com/bioblitz.club/. This is the website for iNaturalist: https://www.inaturalist.org/. Here are the results from today's BioBlitz: https://www.inaturalist.org/projects/kelley-park-january-2024-bioblitz. Here are more of my pictures of past BioBlitzes: http://www.rhorii.com/#Bioblitz. This is last year's BioBlitz at Kelley Park on 3/18/23:

Here are some highlights from KCCB:
We had a total of 49 attendees look and recording living things
Together we made 714 observations
In total we found 198 different species (impressive!)
Some of those species included an Arboreal Salamander, Southern Alligator Lizard, Northern Flicker, and so many fungi!!
