MLK Work day at the Bernal Ranch, 1/15/24 by Ronald Horii
On the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday on Monday 1/15/24, there was a volunteer work day event at the Bernal-Gulnac-Joice Ranch in Santa Teresa County Park. The volunteers were a group from Apple Corporation and some of their friends. I was there representing the Friends of Santa Teresa Park (FOSTP) and helped out. The main task was to spread out wood chip mulch over the picnic area by the bus stop near the start of the path to Santa Teresa Spring. On 4/7/23, there was a work day with volunteers from Apple and FOSTP, where the old bark was removed: https://tinyurl.com/4wjbkwen. The bark was over 25 years old and needed to be replaced. On 12/1/23, the mulch was replaced with wood chips, spread by FOSTP and a group of volunteers: https://tinyurl.com/4ezd244u. More was needed, so 2 truckloads of wood chips, obtained from California Conservation Corps cleanup jobs was dumped onto the spot. Volunteers dug in and spread it around. Below are pictures from the work day. Here are more pictures of Santa Teresa Park, events, and past cleanup days: http://www.stpfriends.org/#newpictures.
