Alamitos Creek Salmon, 12/14/23 by Ronald Horii
On 12/14/23, I went on a bike ride to check out the Guadalupe River, Almaden Lake, and Alamitos Creek for salmon. I didn't see any in the Guadalupe River, but I didn't go past the dam. I mainly looked for them in Alamitos Creek. I saw a dead salmon almost underneath the creek bridge in Almaden Lake Park. Just outside the park gate, I saw a disturbance in the creek. I went down to the creek and saw 4 salmon close up. I took lots of pictures and some videos of them. Then, I went upstream to see if I could see more. The creek was shallow in many places, and it would be hard for salmon to make their way upstream. However, there are some pools deep enough for them. If there's more rain, there may be enough water for salmon to make their way farther upstream. A storm is coming this weekend. I'll check the creek afterwards. Here are my other recent salmon sightings:

The South Bay Clean Creeks Coalition has been monitoring salmon in the local rivers. They have been holding creek cleanup events to improve conditions for the salmon. These efforts have apparently paid off. https://sbcleancreeks.com/index.html
