Los Gatos Creek & Park, Ponds and Salmon, 12/11/23 by Ronald Horii
On 12/11/23, I went for a bike ride on the Los Gatos Creek Trail. My goal was to see salmon in the creek. I started on Mozart Avenue, crossed over the Mozart Avenue Pedestrian Overcrossing, then entered Los Gatos Creek Park. I noticed the ponds in the park were full, but where is the water coming from? We haven't had much rain so far. I rode around the east side of the park to see the ponds. I then rode down the Los Gatos Creek Trail to look for salmon. I saw a live one near the Hwy 17 bridge and 2 dead ones under the Hamilton Avenue Bridge. I then rode back on the trail to see the ponds on the west side of Los Gatos Creek Park. I think I have an idea where the water in the ponds is coming from. Note that these pictures were all taken with my cellphone (Samsung A42), so I had limited telephoto capability. I forgot my travelzoom camera at home.
Here are pictures I've taken recently of salmon in Los Gatos Creek, the Guadalupe River, and Alamitos Creek:
