Joice Trail Reconstruction Progress at Santa Teresa Park, 11/8/23 by Ronald Horii
The Joice Trail in Santa Teresa County Park is currently undergoing repairs and reconstruction after heavy winter rains caused severe erosion damage. The trail is closed on Tuesdays through Fridays from 7 am to 4 pm until construction is complete around November 17. I hiked up the trail after 4 pm on Wednesday to see how the trail work was going. It looks like the trail crews are halfway done. They've scraped the trail and built drainage channels. Later, they will probably put rocks and gravel on the trail surface. The trail is steep, so it's challenging to prevent erosion. Here are pictures showing what it looks like now.
