Chitactac Family Day, 9/16/23 by Ronald Horii
On 9/16/23, an annual event returned to Chitactac-Adams Heritage County Park in Gilroy, after being suspended during the pandemic. It was Chitactac Family Day. This was the description of the event: "Join us for a family-friendly day of activities celebrating Chitactac-Adams’ 25th Anniversary!
Come play traditional games, view the ancient petroglyphs, create unique crafts, and discover what has made this place so special to native people for thousands of years.." It was different from previous years. The shade structures were under reconstruction, so they were not available. The Amah Mutsun Tribal Band, which usually brought displays, their chairman, crafts, and dancers, was not able to make it this year because of a schedule conflict. So the event was smaller this year. Still, a lot of visitors showed up. Below are pictures of Family Day. They are organized by activity and are not necessarily in chronological order.
