Tree Life Cycles Park BioBlitz, 9/9/23 by Ronald Horii
On 9/9/23, Keep Coyote Creek Beautiful held a BioBlitz on a part of the Coyote Creek Parkway in the Basking Ridge neighborhood. It is referred to as "Tree Life Cycles Park" because of there was a Boy Scout project there that had signs (gone now) marking the various trees along the pathway. There is a paved trail along the route, next to Basking Ridge Avenue. There are unpaved pathways leading through the Coyote Creek floodplain below the paved trail. They lead down to Coyote Creek, which flows under the Hwy 101/85 interchange. The aim of a BioBlitz is to observe and record as many living things as possible within a particular area and time period. The observations are recorded using the iNaturalist app or website. Below are pictures of today's BioBlitz. I could only stay for the first hour of it. I did not follow the groups that went down closer to Coyote Creek. There was a BioBlitz here on 10/13/19: https://tinyurl.com/yy34zcbk.
