Almaden Lake 4th of July Celebration, 7/4/23 by Ronald Horii
On 7/4/23, the 8th annual 4th of July Fireworks Festival was held at Almaden Lake. It has always been sponsored by the San Jose City Councilmember for District 10. This year, it was new Councilmember Arjun Batra's turn. He and his staff organized the event, which included entertainment, food trucks, vendors, and non-profit exhibitors. (https://sjd10.com/4th-of-july) The Friends of Santa Teresa Park (FOSTP), the New Almaden Quicksilver County Park Association (NAQCPA), and the Friends of the New Almaden Ting (FONAT) were invited to participate. The organizations combined and shared two adjacent booths. Exhibitors had from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm to get their booths ready. The festivities were scheduled to start at 3:00 pm, when the public would be allowed into the park. Fireworks were to begin at 9:15 pm. Exhibitors had to clean up between 7:30 pm and 8:00 pm. I went to help at the FOSTP/NAQCPA/FONAT booth. I got there at about 1:20 pm. I helped finish setting up the booth and manned it when needed. Mostly, Mike and Dorene Boulland were talking to visitors on the FOSTP/FONAT side, while Tere Johnson was on the NAQCPA side. I went around taking pictures of the event. These pictures below show the setup of the booths before crowds arrived and as they gradually filled up the park. They staked out spaces on the park lawns to watch the fireworks, but they participated in the activities and visited the booths while waiting. You can see how big the crowds got. I helped clean up and left before 8:00. Lots of people were still arriving as I left. Here are pictures I took during the day. You can see how the crowds got bigger and bigger.
